Crystal Light vs. Water... why?

I'm almost 5 months out and straigh****er is still tough for me most days.  I've read in many posts here that I'm not alone.  Flavored water like Crystal Light goes down MUCH easier.

So, I asked my surgeon last week why this is.  All he said is that it's very common, but they don't really know why.  (I seem to get this answer a lot and it's frustrating.)

So, does anyone know why?

Adding things to the water breaks the surface tension, making it easier on our altered stomachs.

Seems as good a reason as any ...

Thanks, Kim.  Not sure I understand what 'surface tension' is, though.  Any chance you could elaborate on that a bit?

That sounds good, too Kathyjs.  I wish water would settle easier with me.  It seems a much healthier choice, and when I do get it down, I pee it right out.  Feels more 'cleansing' in my system.

I don't know the scientific reason, but for me something with flavor always seems to be easier and more enjoyable.  I can choke down water, but I enjoy drinking my unsweet green tea.  It helps me get much more liquid in and my doc says that is the most important thing.

Ditto that, AmyDee.  Word for word.  Still don't quite get the scientific reason either, and I miss drinking plain water.

Thank goodness I can easily do Crystal Lite or Diet Snapple.

I try to make sure i'm at least drinking something that is good for me.  so i brew green tea or red tea and use that as my drink.  lots of antioxidants.

I loved water before my surgery and 80% of was fluid intake was water.  After surgery, I don't know what happened. Now, I'm almost 4 years out, and can't get my fluids in, if I only drink water.

Pre surgery I was a huge water drinker, I would drink 80oz of just plain room temperature water every single day for the last 14 years. But after surgery.. omg water is hard to get down if its not in tons of ice.. and I bought DELICIOUS crystal light strawberry/banana/orange YUMMY.. But just even a few sips of it, and it makes my throat feel very weird and I have no idea why.. Just can't do crystal light.. WISH I could though
