What is causing this?

X-rays won't show them.  I had 2 previous ER visits that showed nothing and my doctor told me that if it happened again to tell them I need a CT scan immediately and if they gave me any trouble to have them contact her and that is what I did and it showed the obstruction.

I also wanted to add that when I got to the hospital I was admitted while to decided if they were going to do surgery and they loaded me up with laxatives, enemas and suppositories until I was all cleaned out and it solved the problem.

I was told that if it happened again to do the same thing and see if that helped.  It has happened a few times since and at the first sign of the severe pain I take 8 tablespoons of Milk of Magnesia and it took care of the problem every time.

I wouldn't recommend you do that without the advice of your doctor, though.

Did you have surgery for the obstruction? Hubby just told me they did do a CT on me because I had to drink the contrast fluid. I forgot. I was in a lot of pain and miserable.

When I'm constipated, I get pains like that. So severe, they double me over in tears. Oddly, the first time it happened, I was still having bowel movements, but they just were not "productive" enough. Something to think about...

Interesting. Well I know I'm not constipated, I go every day because I take Miralax every day.

I was taking Miralax, too.  In fact, I was sure I didn't have an obstruction because I had just had diarrhea a day or two before but I was told you can still have an obstruction even if you go every day.

Also, the Petersen's hernia is different than an obstruction.  You may want to ask your surgeon about it and see what he says.

I get the same symptoms if I eat a bite of this and that of 2 or 3 different foods at a meal. Gasx saves me every time. Good luck.
