So *that's* why they tell you to eat dense protein!

I came close to throwing up tonight for the first time since surgery. I've been cleared for all foods but had just been in the habit of eating lots of yogurt, cottage cheese, and shredded meats, so I hadn't gotten too adventurous yet. Well tonight my husband brought home a roaster chicken from Fred Meyer, and it was the most gorgeous bird I've ever laid eyes on. I'd just played an hour of Dance Dance Revolution after a long day at week and was STARVING! So I measured out my 3 oz and dug in.

I don't know if it's because it was drier than I'm used to or if I just ate too fast, but about 2/3 of the way through, I made a mad dash for the bathroom. Nothing actually came up, but I suddenly just felt STUFFED and was definitely done eating for the night. Now I see why they tell you to aim for dense protein! I really saw the "magic" of this procedure tonight, and I certainly learned a valuable lesson about slowing down, even if I'm really hungry!

Not sure which part of the chicken you had but I find the thighs are the best for being moist. I also have a problem if I eat too fast. I get the foamies. Not fun.

I am about three years out and still do best with dark meat like thighs as it is generally more moist. Breast meat is just too dry for me now and leaves me feeling miserable!

BOO!  to foamies...... It will get more tolerable. I haven't had them in months. Good luck!

I can eat chicken breast and rotisserie chicken fine, but 3 oz is way too much. Yesterday I ate 2.1 oz of chicken for the first time, and I was amazed. A month ago I was only eating about 1.7 oz before getting too full. I've only had chicken get stuck one time, and it was horrible.

Yeah, tonight I measured out 2 oz. of the leftovers and it was just about perfect (I also aimed just for the dark meat this time). It's amazing how we can handle different foods in different quantities...I've been eating 3 oz. of shredded chicken in buffalo sauce, but the sauce was probably a big part of the weight, so it makes sense that I couldn't get anywhere near 3 oz. of solid chicken.

Yes, I have found that I can add sauces on top of the chicken too. I found this feta cheese spread at trader joe's that has 4 grams of protein per serving, and I have been eating my 2 oz of chicken with one serving of the spread. It's tasty and adds more protein.
