Question about how to track a restaurant item (cal, carbs, etc)?

I'm going out to eat with my extended family tonight and they picked the restaurant. I looked online at the menu and my only choice I can have there is a grilled chicken sandwich. So I already know I'll eat it without the bun and it will be fine. I'm crossing my fingers I won't get sick off of it, but it is what it is.

But what I'm trying to figure out is how to track it in MFP? I found it in there but it has the whole chicken sandwich and I'm not eating the bun so I'm assuming that will be way less carbs. Do I just put a generic grilled chicken in there? I'm guessing a restaurant one will be more calories and everything.

I usually if it is grilled I would just put in chicken breast. I would also ask if there was a marinade on it also. Have you had chicken breast yet?

Thanks! I have had it and have been fine. But I had antibiotics a few weeks ago and since then I've been hit or miss with some things so I'm not so sure how I'll be tonight. I'm going to only eat a little bit of it so I have something to eat. This extended family is not my favorite and I really don't want to go but I feel like I have to. Plus my husband has to work so I'm going alone. UGH.

How about soup. Grilled chicken can be dry

The chicken is literally the only choice on the menu unfortunately. No soup, no seafood - everything else is fried there. I was pretty happy to even see the chicken!

Yes, usually I just round about it... frankly anytime you eat out it's a crap shoot as to the cals, fats, etc. if they cook it in olive oil, butter, are heavy handed with something a sauce, you are talking +or- 100+ cals... so guesstimates are about all you get, even when the corporate office gives you the menu stats... many times they are 100's of cals off (Tufts University study in 2011, hopefully they have gotten better but I doubt it)

If you give us the menu link we couldn't probably help come up with some options... if all else fails... eat before, I'd rather say I'm just not that hungry then spend time in a bathroom stall.

It's BW3, but I just found a different section of the menu. I think I might get the naked tenders instead. I can't eat salads or wraps yet. I just made my own lettuce wraps this past weekend and got sick from them :( Otherwise I would have tried those for sure.

Yeah not a whole lot at BWW... naked tenders probably only option... watch any sauce beyond the hellacious cals most are full of sugar and if you are a dumper that won't be a nice day out for sure. If it's family... I'd just bring something a shake in a bender bottle, some cheese something. BBW is not going to say anything... and if they by chance did just say I have a health issue... that will usually scare the beejeebees out of most of the college kids working there ;)

That's very good advice, didn't even think of that!

I usually add the no bun at the top and can pull it saying grilled chicken no bun.  For instance Wendy's - Ultimate Chicken Grill-chicken Only.  When the restaurant I am eating at is not a chain and isn't in MFP then I pick something comparable.  Good Luck and enjoy your time out with your family!
