Lactose Intolerance After Surgery - cross post

I've been reading that it is not uncommon to develop and intolerance to milk after surgery. I usually use milk in a protein shake.  I never had a problem before but now milk doesn't seem to sit well at all. Queasy and bloated feeling. Greek yogurt & cheese don't seem to have the same effect. Have you had similar issues and how long did it last? Are you able to tolerate milk now? I don't mind switching to soy or Lactaid.

Carpe Diem!

I'm 5 years out and milk still bothers me.  I too can eat cheese and Greek yogurt.  My new favorite is unsweetened cashew milk.  It's very creamy and has only 25 calories per cup.  The down side is there is no protein but, if you use it for mixing protein shakes, that's not a problem!

I switched to Lactaid about six months out.  I am still using it and still get cramping and diarrhea if I use regular dairy products like cream cheese or ice creams.  No problems with cheeses or yogurt.

Same.  I can use a little bit of milk in my coffee, but anything more than a couple of ounces sends me straight to the bathroom.  Yogurt and cheese are OK, and I will cry if that changes.  LOL

I need to try this cashew milk.  Everyone raves about it!

Fairlife milk is my go to.  Lactose free and more protein and calcium.
