Questions on lab results and being bounced between doctors... Advice needed
Her endo put her on D2 - that one was not the bright one..
I would not trust a doctor like that with ANY advice re nutrition...

I have a call into my Surgeon's office now. Hopefully they will have some answers. I stayed home today because I could barely move, so exhausted. Slept most of the morning. If they don't call back soon...I'm tempted to call a few hematologist to if they will take on a new patient. Both endo and PCP seem at a loss when I mention the different forms of iron and vit d discussed on this site. So frustrating. I am also reaching out to the vitalady in hopes she can get me started on the right track again.
Thank you everyone
I hate t say that - but don't count too much on docs to help you with most lab work. and what to do.
I was told for 2 years- "your labs are OK", when I felt like I was dying. Ony fellow RNY vet suggested I let her look at my lab and advised me what to do. My iron, B12, D, proteins - were technically normal- but borderline normal.. too much t die, not enough to have good life.
I insisted seeing hema doc. And my surgeon sent me to one. Someone who knows about RNY, and that works with us...Many hema will not recommend infusing iron. And they will hold off until patient is fully anemic.
Find hema in your area that other people - RNY or DS's go to to get infused. Ask around.
With your numbers - a good hema probably would consider blood transfusion, then iron.
I got infused 3 times so far. in 2011, 2012, and 2014. Now - looks good and holding nicely.
My B12 gets very low unless I get weekly B12 shots. I do them myself. My PCP did not liked the idea- but after seeing my B12 numbers (lab were done 10 days after a shot) - he just shaked his head and now has no problem giving me the script.
I personally feel best when my B12 stays above 800... My ferrin better than 30..
my HG = better than 13.5.
etc.

I was about to add a comment about how quickly our labs can drop and the danger of having them be just barely "normal", so I am glad you already mentioned it.
I always am a bit conflicted about criticizing someone's doctor, but so many PCPs/GPs are clueless about vitamins and nutrition. I always worry because some people become offended if we question their PCPs knowledge... and then they disregard the good information that we have given them because they think their doctor surely knows more than we do.
If we don't tell people, though, there will be a lot more people walking around suffering from nutritional deficiencies and complications. So we keep on...

I appreciate everyone's advice and help. I finally heard back from surgeon's office today. Had a great talk with them and set up a long appointment to go over everything and get back on track.
I have the VIT D3 ordered and should arrive Tuesday, bought the Sublingual B-12 and began those. Iron I need to switch up; but am holding off as I need to stop it for the next week due to my colonoscopy. Surgeon's office suggested another type until my appointment and we'll check my labs again and discuss if we need to go to iron infusions.
They scolded me to and I felt bad and happy at the same time. It felt good to have someone care and really want to help. I let the distance to their office and the extra copays prevent me from keeping up regular follow ups with them and thought my PCP would be OK. I learned my lesson. I'll post how things are going next month. Thank you...I'm glad I found my support here again on OH.

That's great, Chris. Glad you're getting back on track and that your surgeon's office is helping.
Some PCPs are good about vitamins and others (many, unfortunately) are clueless. Mine was somewhere in the middle but he has been GREAT about reading material or websites that I have provided him to get more educated about post-RNY needs. I was his first patient to have it back then but not the only one now.
