How to get fluids in while grieving

I spent 3 hours at the emergency vet last night after my bunny suffered a massive seizure and was found to have a large mass in her chest. My family of 4 fur kids is now down to 3.  All day today, I've been having spurts of bawling, and oddly, I'm having trouble getting any fluids in. I just have no desire to swallow anything, food or drink. I take a drink and it just sits in my mouth until it makes me gag. Is there any effective way to get fluids in when acutely upset, or will it not hurt me to just do the best I can for a few days until I'm feeling better?

Sorry hun, just take little sips, you have to for your other 3 fur kids.

I'm so sorry to hear.  I have buns myself and it's so sad when one of them passes.  Maybe try some different drinks that may seem  more comforting to you, like hot tea, or protein hot chocolate.  I know that lump in your throat feeling and it does make it hard.  Keep trying to sip.

Thanks, that was great advice. I had tried some chamomile tea for the first time last night at the vet's office, so I got some more today and it seemed to go down a lot easier than cold drinks.

Losing a pet is hard but you are a grown up and just went through a very serious surgery. You have to find another way to grieve while also maintaining your postop instructions. If you don't you will be back in the hospital within a few days from dehydration. We dehydrate at a quickly. I am sorry or your fur baby but you have to pull it together.

You have to stay hydrated or YOU will die.  Drink up, Kid.

You may not be hungry and that's OK, but liquids are necessary.

I am so sorry about your bunny. It is very hard to lose a pet. I have three dogs and they are like my kids.

You have to try to get fluids down. You have to so you don't end up in the hospital and not able to care for you other animals.

It sucks I just lost a very dear aunt who was a good friend and I had to make myself drink and eat. You just have to push yourself.

Remember why you had the surgery to get healthy.

I am so sorry for the loss of your bunny. I agree with the other advice/suggestions provided. Nothing new to add, but wanted to send you some love. Hang in there and keep sipping. Your other babies need you to be around for them.

I am so sorry for the loss of your bunny.

You have other fur babies that require you to be in good health -- and you must think of the fluids as your medicine.  Just drink like it's medicine -- because it is.  We dehydrate very rapidly.

My deepest sympathy to you for your loss.
