Do antibiotic affect you differently after RNY?

I had a sinus infection last week and started an antibiotic on Friday. I've never had any issues with antibiotics in the past in terms of how it affects my stomach. I started feeling better by Monday and started eating normally (I wasn't eating much last week because I was feeling so crappy). But then the solid food made me sick and I went to soft foods to progress back to solid foods like after surgery since I hadn't had much in my stomach.

All that to say my stomach has been hurting since Tuesday night. I can't figure out what's wrong and the only thing I can think of is the antibiotic or the sinus infection. So either I stop the AB or I don't lol. I've been able to go back to solid food and keep things down just fine, but in general my stomach doesn't feel good. I feel overall nauseous. I don't want to stop and have the sinus infection come back but I don't want to keep taking it if it could be causing my stomach issue.

Sooo - has anyone had antibiotics affect them differently post RNY than pre RNY?

I only had to take antibiotics once since surgery and they did upset my stomach.  This was remedied by taking probiotics during the duration.

Was that a different reaction from what you had to antibiotics prior to surgery?

Yes.  I used to joke that I had a stomach of steel.  I never had problems with antibiotics and even during chemo -- I rarely had many stomach issues.  I also tended on the side of diarrhea before surgery.

Now, my issues are more towards constipation.

Anyhow, TMI -- but I did have stomach issues on the antibiotic (I think it was Bactrim) and the probiotics and taking them with food made all the difference

Interesting. I also didn't have issues with my stomach with chemo. And am on bactrim right now.

Thanks for the input. Googled like crazy but could only find malabsorption topics and info.

Yeah, I was really surprised by it.  I could take anything.  I used these --- there are probably better ones -- but these worked for me.

Just wanted to thank you again because it helped so much! I bought the ones you posted but they didn't get here until yesterday so in the meantime I got a different one at the store. While on the different ones my stomach was still in pain but after half a day with the ones you posted the pain stopped!

Oh I am so glad!  Seems we've got the same grumpy pouch on antibiotics.  :-)
