When did you start eating bars?

My doc said to start eating things "as tolerated"...well I dont know when the heck that would be. Geesh.

Info...had RNY 3/31 had severely abscessed liver 4/23 and doc said to consider that day 1 food wise it was pretty severe.

I am not tolerating chicken or beef yet. Did eat Buddig meat today and that was okay. I can eat VERY marinated meats. I was a person with a very sensitive stomach before surgery so I am not surprised. I am on sucralate(SP?) 4 times a day for ulcers so that doesnt help.

But when did you start eating some of the Quest bars? I am SOOOOOOOOOO bored with what I am having now.

It is really important to keep everything moist right now, makes a big difference in how it is tolerated. Try Chicken thighs, and add broth or sauce. have you checked out the blog "The world according to eggface" ? She has a lot of great recipes. There is no reason you can't try a quest bar, but I wouldn't try eating the whole thing. I don't suggest to eat them everyday, but to change things up, why not?  What you can tolerate will get better as you move along.

Thanks! I think that is what I wanted to hear. I dont eat any meat on the bone, and pre surgery only ate very dry white meats....so it has been a struggle taste wise. I have found myself loving some seafood when I completely hated it before so that helps.

White fish, tuna fish, shrimp, and really really good medium rare steak. I found bars hard to hande the first 4 months.

I dump on Quest bars, so just be careful.  I can eat 1/4 of one and be ok.  But most people don't.  They are rather chewy and grainy though.  Not sure how easy they are to tolerate.  Maybe try a bite first.

Quest bars have varied formulations - I do well with the "originals" which have no sugar alcohols. Later formulas - when they expanded the flavor line up - include the sugar alcohols and I have to steer wide and clear of those.

I wanted the crunch. I would take a few bites of quest bar. Chewed well and one bar lasted me quite awhile

I haven't tried them yet.  I know that I have a weakness for sweets and I am afraid that if I tried one, I would want to eat them all the time.  I have them in my house, but I know it would send me down a path.

Steamed spiced shrimp . . . it never gives me a problem and tastes great with lots of protein!

You're right on the money. For me, the bars are a trigger. If I buy a few for emergencies....they call my name. Quest bars are the best of the bunch, but in some way (illogical probably!) they simply remind me too much of snack foods and candy bars.

Chicken breasts and beef, except ground beef, are still difficult for me right now. Chicken thighs were easier just make sure to take the skin of before you eat. I grilled with the skin on for added moisture and kept some on but it was too much fat and it made me queasy. Lesson learned. I was curious about the Quest Bars too but was worried about the potential to dump, my biggest fear and enough of a deterrent for me to wait and try them later.

Carpe Diem!
