It's one of those days today at work and I would usually hit the vending machine for a Snickers bar. Someone brought in blueberry muffins and leftover wedding cake today! Cake was a trigger food for me in the past and I can feel me stress level going up a bit. How can I politely decline when the person is telling everyone you have to try this amazing cake!

very nice way to to tell them you found out you are allergic. And that 5 min of pleasure eating it may make you sick for hours...

typically people don't like making you sick.  so even if they try to pressure you you can look at them and ask - raising eyebrows: "you want me to get sick ???"

I love your answer - I have a wedding this weekend and I am looking forward to the event, and this will give me another way to stay on track.

I've started telling people I'm trying to eat gluten free. Flour makes me bloated.  Not a lie it does.

When I'm faced with that predicament, I just tell people I can ( no longer ) ingest sugar. If the asker keeps insisting, tell them sugar will make you really sick and it's entirely possible you'll hurk up cake all over them. Usually does the trick.

Thank you for the rescue. The wedding cake had hazelnuts in it and I'm allergic to tree nuts so it took that temptation out of the mix but those blueberry muffins were still on the table. I drank some water, posted on OH and pushed my way through the temptation. Thank you everyone!

Good for you to resist. I usually tell the pushers they don't want to experience a dumping syndrome. Have never had one bc I've avoided all that sugar. If they don't take that at face value I have no trouble describing it in graphic detail. By the time I finish no one wants cake!

I feel your pain! So far reps have brought in Dunkin' Donuts and Pizza!! WTH is wrong with them?? I try to put a smile on my face as my coworkers are walking around eating, all the while complaining about gaining weight with a jelly-filled powdered donut is in their hands. I have been asked/told at least 20 times if Im going to partake. It takes all I have to just say NO.......Im going to snap ;) i will just sit here, eat my pickles and cheese and be a grumpy butt! LOL  Have a great day!!
