Calcium and Multivitamin
Do you take together ? I know my Multivitamin has iron is that alright, I take 4 Perfect Iron and 1-1000 mg of Vitamin C my Dietitian told me my Iron was 62 and that was in range but would like it a little higher so I asked her if I should take 5 perfect iron and she said no just stay with 4. The dietitian said maybe I should not take my Calcium with Multivitamin but I have been doing that for 15 months and have my schedule down now. So confusing. Should I just go ahead and take 5 Perfect Iron you think ?
I'm still a newbie- but my surgeon told me not to take calcium with iron. He said it multiple times so it must be important. He said the calcium blocks out some of the absorption of the iron, I believe.

Mine has me take the multi and calcium together at breakfast and dinner. I take the iron just before bed. I think the iron in the multi is minimal (18mg I think) compared to what I take at night (60mg). But then my levels haven't been tested yet because I'm only 6 weeks out. But this is the schedule they have everyone in the program on.
I've just been taking the Celebrate ferrous fumarate. I was taking 30mg pre-op so they increased my dose to 60mg after surgery. I won't have my levels tested til 6 months so I have no idea if this is an adequate amount. I also have not been taking extra vitamin C, aside from the small amount in the Celebrate iron pills, because I had kidney stones several years ago and vitamin C is contraindicated with a history of kidney problems. I was told I need to talk to my PCP about the C which I haven't yet.

My doc says not to take calcium and iron together, so since my multi has iron, I take it with my iron. I take my first calcium chew in the morning, my multi and iron at night, and I keep a bottle of calcium at work so I can take the other two as sweet "treats" during the day.
