I have gained 50 pounds and its makes me mad and depressed...

I started my weight loss Feb 5th 2010...I lost from 316 pounds down to 180 pounds. But I have regained 50 pounds and don't understand what has caused this weight gain. I have looked back at my eating habits. I don't eat fried, white rice, potatoes sugar, or just white foods. I eat baked, broiled, boiled or grilled foods. I take my vitamins and get good reports that all my levels are good. I exercise 30 minutes a day. I use stevia to sweeten my tea and plenty of water.

I honestly watch everything that goes in my mouth. But something has caused this regain and I'm scratching my head wondering what is wrong....its really annoying and downright  depressing. All that I went through to loose the weight and this happens.

I have done the 5 day pouch test diet and lost a few pounds. I wonder what is going on...maybe some of you have some answers.

Thank you in Advance,

I'm sorry I haven't posted to this forum in a long time but I have been lurking and reading all your wonderful and inspiring posts.

I watch everything that goes in my mouth, too, and sometimes it is too much food.

How many calories are you eating? Do you weigh/measure/track your eating? Portion sizes tend to creep up if we are not careful. We can eat a lot more the further we get out.

30 minutes a day of exercise is great for overall health, but does little for controlling your weight.

I have other health issues that pretty much limit my exercising routines. I have fibromyalgia, degenerative disk disease, osteoarthritis, neuropathy in my feet (leftover from when I was diabetic..had nerve damage.),Migraine headaches. Now I'm not making excuses but having all this against me I can only tolerate 30 minutes a day. I would love to do more but its hard for me to do more.

As far as calories I do a  1800 ADA diet. I do protein shakes 2 times a day..I do Premier Protein.  According to the body mass index for my height of 5ft 11inches tall I have a BMI of 32.1

Honestly I'm really trying but apparently not doing enough. But thank you for answering :)

I would gain on 1800 calories.

I need no more than 1400 cal on low carb diet to maintain. Very low carb diet.

No grains or starchy carbs. No dairy ... V. Low carb diet is for me under 40 g per day. Mostly from nuts, non strchy veggies, and if i even have fruits - berries.

To lose i need to do 1000-1200 cal , v. low carbs.

I don't count fiber as " free carbs". Or SA. So for me it is total carbs... Not net carbs.

And if you were eating 400 extra calories every day, the simple math turns out to a 40 pound gain in one year.

It takes very little extra food, every day, to add up to a lot of weight gain. Hala has this down to a science, she really knows her stuff.

Could you post a sample day of food logs? I'm a newbie, but the vets on here are great at figuring out likely culprits, probably because many of them have done the investigative work already for themselves. Also, have your sizes possibly crept up? Eating 50% more good food still has 50% more calories.

I don't keep a food log maybe that is my problem. But I haven't gone up in sizes I have stay the same size even with the weight gain. I wear I size 16 in womens jeans. They aren't tight at all. I have no swelling so I really kind of lost on what is going on. I'm going to look at my medications and see if any of them could be causing the weight gain...sometimes that could be it.

Thank you for answering

Sizes definitely seem to have a good amount of "give." I wore my 26/28s until I couldn't make them work anymore, and by that time I was in 14/16s. I'd definitely advocate for logging your food. It's the only thing that's ever worked for me to remain aware of what I'm eating.

The only possible thing that can make you gain 50 pounds is eating too much. It doesn't matter if it's cookies or carrots, if you eat too much, you'll gain weight.

Laura had good advice. Use a kitchen scale and weigh out exact portions, and log everything using something like MyFitnessPal. If you really watch what you eat, you'll lose.

It's a simple solution, but we all know how really, really hard it is to do.
