Strange maybe, but do the calories in benefiber count in your daily allotment?? My clear fiber (Meijer brand) has 25 calories per dose, for 75 calories a day and 15 grams of fiber. Should I count it or leave it out?? The fiber is soluble, if that matters.

It depends.  For most people it would not count 100%.

But....it would for me. Since fiber, not all, can affect my Blood sugars, and that means that my body breaks down the fiber and absorbs it - so i can't ignore that.

It's complicated.  In a nutshell, insoluble fiber passes through you intact and does not contribute calories.  Soluble fiber, however, will be partially fermented in the colon and therefore contribute some calories.

If the nutrition label lists calories they definitely count.

..."fermented in the colon..."  by chance are you a scientist? nutritionist? lab technician? gastro-intestinal specialist?  meat cutter? taxidermist?  mortician? janitor?  or someone who just likes to squelch our appetites?

I don't understand what you're trying to ask me.  Fermentation is just a biological process; it's what your gut flora does to carbohydrates.

I'm not used to terminology like "fermentation in the colon" and wondered if it was work-related jargon for you? The listing of professions was merely guesses of what you might do.  I'm not trying to be nosy so please disregard.  But, if you are a scientist, you might be interested in looking at 4FurKids photo album picture of a VSG procedure--it caught me by surprise as much as colon talk : )  Edited to let you know 4FurKids is set to private--the photo of her husband's removed stomach can be found at the top under the word "Photos."

Thank you, that is very helpful. Maybe I will look into some insoluble to help balance it out and lessen the soluble.

The manufacturer has already figured out what part of the fiber is used as calories, and what passes through. If the label lists calories, count the calories.
