I would simply like to urge caution.  This is the second thread you've started about food choices -- first Taco Bell, now chicken wings -- that make me worry you're trying to get a little too close to the old indulgences.

I am only 8 weeks out is need of new food items. Didn't know this was a judgemental site. This is still a learning process for me so didn't think a question would caused me to be judged.

Friendly suggestion to view OH as an honest site more so than a judgmental site.  There's replies, both right and wrong, both factual and opinion, that put people, including me, on the defense when instead it could be chance to thank a fellow WLSer for helping ring a little bell inside our heads. Heck, sometimes there's replies that are like taking a 2x4 whack over the head :)

I second Chulbert's psychological/behavioral cconcern, but as far as the chicken wings go nutritionally, they are fine with the skin off.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

I'm newer to this than you are, but my nutritionist and my surgeon's team both gave me a lot of guidance on protein choices. If they didn't give you much guidance, can you call or write an email to get more details?

Assuming not - here are a few suggestions from my plan.  your plan may differ but I hope this helps give you some ideas:

  • Turkey Chili
  • Turkey Burger
  • Tilapia, Salmon, or any flaky fish
  • baked or steamed Shellfish:  shrimp or scallops or crab
  • Shredded seasoned chicken
  • Sliced deli turkey or chicken with 1 laughing cow light cheese wedge, rolled up
  • Turkey Meatball or Meatloaf
  • Finely ground chicken or tuna salad with low fat mayo
  • Cottage cheese, part skim ricotta
  • Plain greek yogurt

My nutritionist advises me to avoid fatty cuts of red meat, hot dogs, sausage, cured meats (like bacon, salami), fried foods, lasagna, pizza, and all starchy carbs.

Again, this is a total newbie speaking... and I do love the taste of chicken skin... but we have to learn to go without.  How about boneless/skinless chicken thighs? Just bake or poach it in some tomato sauce (cover the thigh with the sauce and it will absorb the juices and the flavor as it bakes in the oven).  Throw a little grated cheese on top. Nice and juicy, and tasty too.

Everybody here is trying to help you! I do wish you good luck.

I'm pretty far out and I've had a wing a few times - a little dark meat can be a great diversion.

That said - it's hard to get a wing to where there is NO skin.

And as long as "wings" doesn't mean Buffalo wings with bleu cheese, or bbq wings, or hot wings....well, you know what I mean!
