Just wanted to reply here to Kate's previous post on page 4 but had the same issue with where the reply went that others had! .... I read a lot of excellent replies to the question by the OP and for myself I am still early enough out that I still feel I am walking a narrow road because I am all-too-aware of my addictive personality and where it will lead if I let it. Your remarks "Those who succeed do not test their limits. Those who succeed change their lifestyle." truly resounded in me.  Enough that I actually printed it, framed it, and placed it over the lightswitch in my bedroom to be in my face every morning. :)

Thanks~

My ability to drink pre-WLS vs post-WLS...this would not be normal for me. I would say I was a pretty good drinker, but 2 shots was pretty much my limit post-WLS and I would drink maybe once a month? I metabolize very fast - drunk in minutes and sober just as fast - us skinnies are no fun at parties JK!) (note I am not skinny although I am also no fun at parties).

So, like some said - you do have genetic dispositions towards obesity and you do seem to have a high alcohol tolerance so one drink could definitely be the one to trigger the next one and the next one, who knows? I am a drug and alcohol counselor and we don't really know why one person can handle drinking heavily for a while then shut it off, another barely start and then become dependent, twins where one drinks socially and the other has to go by AA rules. I think that is why it is so important that we self-monitor and reach out to others for their opinions like you did (even if it is a harsh responses or something we didn't want to hear or we at least get some answers in between or whatnot)

I have alcohol predisposition in my family so it's just something I keep in mind. I drink at home when I do choose to drink because it's cheaper, no****ered down, more my scene, i don't feel pressured to drink more, i don't have to call a cab, etc, etc. Good luck. If all else fails, talk to your doctor. If they think that kind of tolerance is normal....find a new doctor...or a new bar?

Sure it's possible that the booze was watered down but more likely your metabolism is processing the alcohol slower... you know that friend that can drink people under the table versus the lightweights that get tipsy of a few sips... it's how they metabolize the booze... lots of factors at play... I'm no scientist but body mass, liver size, enzymes breaking down the booze, etc. all play a part we are all different and now add to the fact that we have rearranged guts, lack of pyloric valve.

Just one post-ops opinion... http://theworldaccordingtoeggface.blogspot.com/2012/06/life- after-weight-loss-surgery-q_27.html

This is not directed at you but in general most bariatric programs say avoid it... so I think the question most people have to ask themselves is why they are drinking... habit, taste/enjoyment, how you define fun, self esteem/body image, peer expectations, culture/lifestyle, escape issues/alter state, social anxiety, transfer addiction, lower inhibitions, self sabotage, I'm sure there are more... anyway... understanding your why is important.
