I think you posted this intentionally to flex your muscles at the responses you knew full well would come flying back at you. Why you would want to do this is probably a bigger issue than, what I perceive as, pretending you don't know whether or not a five vodka, one tequila night is an appropriate tolerance level for someone committed to a post-bariatric lifestyle.

Awwww.... how judgemental of you, aren't you a peach. Has it occurred to you that her question might be genuine? That perhaps "one thing (drink) led to another" and she found herself having consumed an inordinate amount without getting warning signals from her body that she had gone too far?

There but for the grace of God go I. Ever heard that expression?

You're an adult, it's your choice, I accept you are not a raging alcoholic, I assume you are young and your friendship group socialises round alcohol.  

But take care. So early on you shouldn't be testing your limits. Alcohol is usually something we are told to avoid early on but if your doctor said ok, then it's ok! 

But, and this is from reading posts on boards like this for over nine years, testing your limits with anything, food or alcohol, is a warning sign.  This is your new life. Drinking your entire days calorie allowance in a few hours isn't condemning you to disaster. But that you thought it was a good idea, just a few months after you started this new lifestyle, is worrying. If you look at long term, successful vets, the one thing the almost all have in common is that they were highly motivated and stuck to their plan. 

it Is perfectly possible to socialise and have a good time without so much alcohol. 

Highest 290, Banded - 248   Lowest 139 (too thin!). Comfort zone 155-165.

Happily banded since May 2006.  Regain of 28lbs 2013-14.  ALL GONE!

But some has returned! Up to 175, argh! Off we go again,

Thank you for your response Kate, I don't plan on doing it again any time soon. I just wanted to know what my tolerance was after talking with others in my post op group.

Due to the re routing of our insides , alcohol goes directly to our liver. I had RYN to get healthy not ruin my liver. If you wanted someone to say, sure go drink , it's not me.sorry

Ok, coming from someone who did exactly what you did almost 10 years ago...

After my lapband I was told that my tolerance would go down.  WOOHOO!  I get to be a cheap date!  My friends and I (same situation as yours) wanted to see what the tolerance ended up being.  They didn't care, they didn't see the risks that came with it.  I didn't either cause I didn't listen to the risks enough to make a proper decision.  I thought "Oh, I'm doing straight shots, no carbs there!"

I found out exactly what the risks were.  When you are drink your inhibitions go down.  Your judgement becomes impaired.  And all your non-bariatric surgery friends are drinking and having fun and eating what ever they want to.  I find out when I am drunk I can eat almost anything I want to cause my body is numb.  And puking is just from being drunk, right?  (Mind you all of this thought process led to once a month then once a week, then 2x a weekend partying)  Was I an alcoholic?  No.  Not really.  I was a ****y young girl who thought that I would listen to my friends who were not thinking of my best interests and we just wanted to test out if I could drink still.  I barely drank before the band.  

And most of the weight I put back on is from wine calories.  No lie.  I am not an alcoholic, I am purely an addict.  I switched one addiction that made me feel good with another.  So here I am, hoping to get a revision to RNY because I have a band that is slipped from too much puking while eating drunk.  I am taking a break from alcohol until I reach goal.  I'm hoping I can become addicted to some other healthier alternative.  The doctor said I didn't need to take this break, it was self imposed because I saw what happened the last time.  Maybe you and your friends can see how many laps you can swim in the pool, or run around the track, or how many minutes you can do on the stationary bike.  Those are healthier competitions that will not drive you to make bad decisions in a moment of drunken weakness, or give you a false sense of security on how much you can drink before it hurts you.

Oh.  Also.  I'm a bar owner and a bartender since the age of 18.  I have seen countless girls like you.  Trust me, there is more to what happened the other night, you just aren't willing to admit it to yourself.  Trust me, you need to take a really HONEST look at yourself and ask why you did this when its obvious that alcohol can be dangerous.  You even said it yourself.  You asked the doctor for permission.  If it was no big deal you would not have asked.  So why take the risk?  You don't need to answer, you don't owe it to us.  But you do owe it to yourself.  Otherwise you could end up just like me.  Right back at the starting point hoping to God you get another chance, hoping to God you didn't damage your insides too much, and swearing it will be different this time.  Please, for your sake, stop trying to prove why you did this to us all here and take the time to make sure you do not fall down the hole you are teetering on the edge of.  The fact that you don't think this is a big deal shows you need to do this.  

Or maybe its no big deal at all.  

That mixed tequila drink you had I'm willing to bet had at least 500 calories in it, if not more.  If your vodkas were flavored you are looking at twice what you thought the caloric count was.  I'm guessing just in drinks alone you took in 1500 calories.  That is 3 days worth of food, and 5 days worth of stalled weight loss.  If you ate off plan while drunk you most likely add to that count.  That tolerance is not normal.  Let your doctor know how much you drank and what you ate before during and after and I'm sure he/she will be able to look into why you tolerated so much booze.  There might be something wrong.  Good luck!!

Just because you ended up falling off the wagon doesn't mean everyone will . . I tried alcohol and it didn't even affect me in the least so my desire to do it again isn't there. I didn't make bad food choices either . . I actually came home to bed, not everyone's situation is the same. And just because you have poured drinks your whole life doesn't mean you have any insight into my life . . I don't have anything to admit to because there is nothing more to what happened that night I simply came on here to see if there were anyone else who weren't affected by alcohol anymore.
