Are Nuts a no no?
I was cleared to eat nuts at six weeks post-op, and my dietitian recommends one serving a day for the healthy fats. But make sure you limit them because they are high in calories. I use a kitchen scale for accurate measurements. I recommend choosing nuts that are higher in protein in lower in carbs. Almonds are generally considered the best choice, and pistachios are a good second choice.

I had 1/4 c of pistachios every day from months 4 through 9. It didn't hurt my weight loss -- but I did measure them exactly. I only stopped eating them because I got sick of them. Then I ate wasabi almonds for a while -- now I am onto dry roasted edamame -- I weigh out exactly a one ounce serving.

If you can eat a small serving of nuts, great. But they are high calorie, and you can eat a billion calories of nuts before you even know it. If it can be a problem for you, it's best to stay away, and have a more filling snack.

I have been eating one serving of nuts every few days since about 6 weeks post-op without any problems. I was concerned because my paperwork from the NUT (no pun intended) said that some people cannot tolerate them, but no problems here. However, I agree with Grim. You have to watch how many you are eating because they are high in calories. On days I include them in my diet, my total calories for the day are a bit higher overall and I have to be extra careful about what I eat for the rest of the day. I try to map out what I plan to eat in MyFitnessPal a day in advance so that I can see if I can "afford" to have them that day.
