my surgery (RNY) date is set for May 27 th and I am starting to stress about being prepared.  Could anyone suggest or recommend the essentials I need to have stocked at home immediately post op? I am also not sure if vitamins need to be taken directly after surgery and what type do most buy here. Any help will be most appreciated!

I had my surgery on the 7th and started my vitamins when I got home from the hospital on the 9th.  I met with the NUT at the hospital and we went over the vitamins that I should be taking and when. So make sure you have those on hand.  We stocked up on sugar free jello, pudding, and Popsicles. Low calorie Greek plain and vanilla yogurt - double check the sugar count if you buy this, some of them are pretty high. I am staying with yogurt under 5 grams per container and a container is 2 or 3 meals.  I also made sure that sugar was no higher than the 5th ingredient.  My husband also made a lot of broth for me and we froze it in ice cube trays. I'm able to pop out 1 or 2 cubes and heat up lunch or dinner in a quick minute.  I also have a really good protein powder on hand to make sure I hit my protein intake. I sprinkle that in my pudding and yogurt in addition to making a protein drink.

Best of luck. Keep us posted on how you are doing!

What kind of protein powder do you use?

Immediately home, here's some things I remember liking:  a clean house, lots of pillows on the bed, sf popsicles, Unjury brand protein chicken soup packets, ready-to-drink protein drinks, sf Tylenol, someone present in the house just in case I needed help or reassuring words of kindness, and all the necessary phone numbers for the WLS medical staff posted by the phone in case of questions.  Vitamin recommendations and regiment are best instructed by your medical team--they seem to vary widely.

Unjury.com also has great protein powders, as well...highly recommend starting out with packets instead of the larger containers.  If you place an order and don't like something, Unjury is really good about letting you make an exchange for something you do like.  Yes, sf liquid Tylenol or the Junior Strength quick dissolving tabs should work, too.

I had Isopure (protein drink- not the powder- the one like kool-aid- I liked the pineapple one best) on hand. I couldn't stomach any of the milk based proteins more than a few sips, so I was glad for that Isopure. Also - it 40 grams of protein and that rocks.
