1 week post-op and worried that I'm screwing everything up. Why is it so easy to get protein...

I'm not a doctor or nutritionist, but only 500-600 calories a day? That's just not healthy! The first week or so, I was aiming for 1000-1200. I had my surgery in March, and I've lost 50 lbs on 1100 calories a day. My weight loss slows down when I have fewer calories. I also found that if I don't include fiber, and some healthy fat, I have problems with constipation, and my finger nails get brittle. I worry about messing everything up. I have a fear of failure, too. I only weigh myself once a week, or ten days. When I feel like I might be eating too much, and I am still only on pureed, or very soft foods, i go back and look at the packet that I got from the nutritionist to make sure i am following the eating plan.

Thanks, it's great to know I'm not the only one who can stick to the plan but eat more calories than many on here seem to aim for! Maybe I need to stop basing what's right for me just on what I see other people do.

Actually, 500-600 calories a day at first is extremely common! It is not unhealthy.  It is what MOST plans call for.

Your plan calls for 1000+ calories within the first couple of weeks post-op?!? That is quite rare and may start to cause problems the further out you get.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

500-600 calories a day is adequate when one is trying to. Lose. large amount of weight. The whole idea behind 500-600 calories a day is to force the body to BURN its stored fat. Those of us who Are/were morbidly obese have PLENTY of nutrients ,stored as fat to only consume 500-600 calls a day for a limited amount of time, while weight is being lost.

The body Is lazy. If it is given too many calories,it will burn what it can. Use and STILL save the rest as fat.  If you find your weight loss stopping or a gain. Happening,I suggest you rethink your calories.

I was to get 120 grams of protein by 2 weeks and I did it every day and continue to do so. Never once had an issue with liquids or protein it is a good sign!

i never ate less than 800 kcal a day. Lost 98 lbs by 6 months. Just follow the plan.

Never ever compare to others. At this point measure your body . Waist , thighs etc. If the scale isn't moving check inches

That's excellent advice; thank you. There is so much variation in plans, I guess I just need to trust the advice I'm getting from my NUT and other providers.
