Worried about Silly Things

I know we are not supposed to focus on the numbers, but I am wondering what the typical weight loss is one month after RNY.  Anyone willing to share?  I had mine on April 15.  I have followed the plan to a T., and today when I stepped on the scale I was up 3 pounds from 2 days before.  I did start pureed... Would that effect it?  Anyways, I just want to see if I fall into a normal range.  Thanks.

HI Fitfybyforty..... if you use the little search magnifying glass at the top you will see 24 zillion posts with this exact question.  Tons of answers from the Vets.  That is how I researched when I hit my 3 week stall.  Only lost 7 pounds my second month.. made me loco but here I am 13 months later and down 157 pounds..... Good luck to you.

If you go up to the top and choose "tools" and then "post-op planner" and input your info, it will give you an estimated amount of weight lost each month until you achieve goal.  The typical expected percentage is 60% of excess weight, but I always wanted to lose 100% of mine, so I used that.  It was surprisingly accurate for me.

You are going to lose more weight this year than you ever have.

There is no "typical" weight loss.  We all lose at different rates - and our weight fluctuates from day to day.  Weighing every day was not an option for me -- I knew I'd freak out if I didn't lose one day, or heaven forbid had a gain!!  I restricted myself to getting weighed once a month at doctor's appointments.  You might want to do a graph of your weight loss and you'll see your progress more clearly.

Best of luck!

Anytime I have had a 2-3 lb weight gain I have to stop and remind myself "Have I gone to the bathroom lately?" First off that was a horrible thing to have to deal with. I was SOOOO constipated all the time. Just have faith in yourself and in your tool. I had my surgery April 14, 2014 and I think the first month I lost 30 lbs or so, but also I was very sick with a stricture starting by the time I was on pureed foods. Everyones body is different just keep that in mind!

Follow your program and you will lose.  In the beginning, my program told us to stay off the scales - there is so much that is going on in our bodies after surgery as we adjust to all of the changes - they pump us full of fluids while we are in the hospital.  It is not unusual, at least from my personal experience, to go down and up - lots of fluctuation - I still do - sometimes it is sodium intake, or not drinking enough fluids. Best wishes as you continue your journey!
