Surgery cancelled

Sorry for the cancellation.  Of course, you know it is for your safety by allowing your airway to heal.  Sometimes unsuccessful intubations can result in irritation to the airway. If the surgery wasn't cancelled, your airway would have swollen with the breathing tube in causing more irritation and prolonging your extubation until the swelling went down (1-2 days!).

Oh, wow... what a bummer.  I was worried about that sort of thing happening to me because I had just started a bad cold two days before surgery.  But because I hadn't started coughing yet and my lung were clear, they went ahead.  I did start coughing in the hospital during recovery, and I can tell you it's not fun to be hacking up a lung when your insides have just been rearranged.

All the planning, getting the time off work, cleaning the house, getting pet sitters, etc... I would've been sooooo upset if they had to reschedule.

I'm really sorry this happened to you.

It sounds like your team was more careful and concerned than mine.  By far, the most painful part of my hospital stay was an extremely sore throat, feeling almost swollen shut. Here's hoping two weeks passes quickly for you.

SHILO-I firmly believe everything happens for a reason, but I really hate this, for you. I only imagine how disappointed you must be. As a very long time nurse, I could go on and on about how it's better for you to wait, but I know you don't want to hear that today--I wouldn't EITHER !! Use these next weeks to stay focused on your health--HANG IN THERE !!!

Godspeed, my friend

UGHHH you poor thing!  So sorry.  DO you have to continue the pre-op diet?  This sucks, no other words.  I can't even imagine how badly I would've felt if that happened.  I sure hope this all goes better for you in 2 weeks.

So sorry! I know it's better to be safe, and as others have said, coughing when you're fresh out of surgery is pretty awful. Just the same, to get all the way to the OR.... Heartbreaking disappointment.
