Yes calcium interferes with iron absorption. You need at least 2 hours between those doses.

So do you think I can take the first dose with my multi since I supplement the iron anyway?

I would increase D and iron. The number I would have wanted was ferritin, but I guess they didn't check it?

You're right. Looks like they didn't. Should I ask him to add that next time? So you're saying add just a D supplement to my calcium/D combo pill? Thanks for taking the time. I really appreciate it.

Yes, you should ask him about adding a separate vit D3 dose. I suggest you ask him for at least 2000-3000 IU a day. With a level of 30, you will bottom out taking only 1500 IU a day with your calcium. Make sure it is dry D3, because we do not absorb the oils well with the softgels. Also, not the prescription because it is D2 which the body has to convert to D3. You will need to order it online. VitaLady and Vitacost both sell dry D3. VitaLady sells 5000 and 50,000 capsules. Vitacost sells 5000 and 10,000 capsules. If your doctor agrees to the suggested dose, you will need to take 14,000-21,000 IU per week. With the 5000 capsule, you would take it 3 -4 times a week. Make sure he checks your D level in 3 months, because you may need to increase the dose again.

If you equate it to money, the iron in your blood is like money in your pocket, ready to spend. Ferritin is iron in storage, like money in a CD. You have to wait a little to use it.

You can have money in your pocket and be ok, today, with no savings. But tomorrow you could be on the street. The iron in your blood may be ok, today, but if your  ferritin is really low, you need to build those reserves up, or be in big trouble. Have it checked.

Great analogy. Got it. I'll have it checked. Thanks!
