FINALLY!!!  I chose RNY instead of sleeve because of my heartburn.  I really thought it would cure it.  I tried to stop using the PPI at month 1, 3, 6, and just now.  It finally worked!  I had to wean myself....1/2 pill a day for 3 weeks, then a half pill every other day, and then I stopped 2 weeks ago.  So happy!

damn skippy!  and I shouldn't complain.  It's the only drug I've ever been on.  But still, very happy.

I left the hospital off mine and was fine. I stupidly started reading things where people spoke of "silent reflux" and got nervous so my doctor told me to take them till my 6 month check up and we'd scope it to be sure. (I'd had slightly progressed, ablated Barrett's esophagus prior to surgery.) I'm pretty sure I'm fine but I shot myself in the foot!  I have my scope in 2 weeks then wean off. I just had to look at gift horse in the mouth!😏. Darnit!

Congrats to you!!!

Wow that stinks. Well I hope your scope proves you are right as rain.

My surgeon has his patients take PPI's for 3 months after surgery and since then I haven't needed them in nearly 5 years!

I was taking 2 or more a day.  It was so bad I would wake up choking from the acid.  I am so glad I don't have to worry about that anymore.

My surgeon told me I would be cured! I didn't even have terrible heartburn like you describe. Just annoying and since I know it can be damaging I took the PPI. So glad you were instantly cured!

Thanks for sharing.  Your post gives me hope.  I am 6 months post op and have tried twice to stop the PPI, once at 3 months and once at 5.  Both times I had to start taking it again after less than a week off.  I did not wean myself though, just stopped.  I think I will try your approach next month.

Yea and maybe even give it a couple more months. Definitely the few weeks of half a pill a day helped me. Good luck to you!
