Snack Ideas

Been struggling trying to come up with some snack ideas. I had a few ideas but wasn't sure if they were okay or not. My Nutritionist  just had a baby and is on maternity leave. She told me I could call but I hate to bug her on little things like this that hopefully you guys can help with.

I was wondering if the following foods were okay to eat. (I'm 5 weeks out, surgery was 4/23)

  • pickles
  • peanut butter
  • cheese
  • turkey bacon

any comments or suggestions would be extremely helpful!

Greek yogurt, low sodium sliced turkey rolled up, protein bar (1/4 of a bar), few almonds, Syntrax nectar, hard boiled egg, hummus...  Just have to watch your portions carefully.

Suggestions:  Cottage cheese, sugar-free popsicles, Greek yogurt, homemade protein shakes, hummus, soft nuts like cashews or nut butters.  From your list, if it were me, I'd limit pickles (vinegar & high sodium) while things are still healing inside. I think your nutritionist would enjoy a break from the new baby to talk about things she knows a lot about. She probably would like to know how you are doing, too.

Greek yogurt, cottage cheese, hummus, protein shake, string cheese, deli meats...so many to pick from! :)

I am 3 weeks out and at this point I am not cleared to have peanut butter or pickles, or turkey bacon.  Not supposed to have any nuts for 2 months after surgery.  But that is my program :)

Be careful with the peanut butter. Some of them are high in sugar.  Peanut butter also has LOTS of calories.  It's a good choice if you eat it occasionally in small quantities.  Greek yogurt with SF cheesecake pudding mixed in and a little SF strawberry jam.  String cheese, cottage cheese, deli turkey or ham slices, boiled eggs.

I have a question for those of you that said hummus - because I love hummus!! What can we dip in hummus at this point? I know celery is too stringy right now. I've had soft carrots but I don't think that would be good in it. I had surgery the same day so this is a good thread for me too :)

Mute:  I make a roll up of low fat string cheese wrapped in a slice of low sodium turkey lunch meat and dip it in about 1/2 tblsp. hummus.  It's one of my favorite lunches when I have to work at my desk!  Yum!  It's a whopping 128 cals, 4 gm carbs and 13 gms of protein.
