What is healthy at Dickey's BBQ??
I don't want to look at all the ingredients on all their menu. Went into one for the first time today...Yeah, I know they have been around for year. Anything that is RNY friendly...Or too much sugar in everything??
No idea. But maybe baked potatoe casserole? Green beans? The meats are smoked so as long as you say sauce on the side you should be good. Not sure I am new and not eating food yet lol but based on the guidelines they gave me for down the road this is what I would do. Order a leaner mean no sauce. Green beans and te baked potato casserole. (One meat two sides is thier deal around here.) I would give my hubby the bread. Eat the meat first. Then the beans and a taste of the baked potatoe (the top layer with bacon cheese and chives is my fave). Give the rest to hubby.
Dickey's is great. We'll get a pound of brisket and a pound of chicken every now and then and have food for days. The chicken is smoked with nothing extra on it. I like their regular sauce, but I don't use a lot of it. I like to do the meat with pickle. The brisket is also very good. I've used the chicken in making my own chicken salad.
I don't do the sides too much these days, just mainly stick to the meat. Pre-surgery, I liked their potato casserole and green beans. I liked their ham pre-surgery, but now I find it's too salty and doesn't quite agree with me anymore.

Get this...there is a Dickey's BBQ in our little, northern Minnesota town! It does not fit in at all, especially since they don't serve coffee (gasp). While they last, here's me at the counter: "I'd like a quarter pound of brisket with the fat and bark trimmed off and no sauce. Please put it in side cup with a cover. I'll take two slices of onion and two pickle spears with it." At the till, my total comes to around $4.00 and a punch on their "I'm a regular" card for free meat on the 9th visit. I usually take it to-go for two reasons: to prevent myself from eating all of it in one sitting and to resist the temptation to use their complimentary, self-serve ice-cream machine! The one time I ate there with my DH, I over-heard a southern-sounding man order okra. When he sat near us, I asked him what okra tasted like. I was embarrassed he took that as a hint to give me a couple to try but now I can say I've tasted okra...hee haw!
Sorry, I try not to mention foods by name just in case it creates a craving in someone like it does with me...confession...yes, I stopped @ Dickeys from this conversation--red flag, red flag. Your past clutch, along with Dickey's self-serve containers of sweet tea, are foreign in this neck of the woods. Cheering you on to avoid, avoid :)
I checked out the nutritional information on their website and your best bet is the chicken, turkey and green beans. All low in sugar and fat. A little high in sodium but for an occasional outing probably ok. Did you go to the one at Monte Vista Crossings? I'm a city planner for the City of Turlock.
Carpe Diem!
