Am I going to feel any worse than a natural child birth? ;-)

I had two c-sections and my RNY had less pain and mobility was better than with them.  I could get up and walk around without any problems.  At the hospital, I was up walking laps around the bariatric floor just fine.  They'll have you walking before you're discharged. Keep walking (and drinking fluids/protein drinks).  Walking helps with the pain and getting the gas out.

I would recommend having someone with you in case you need anything or experience any difficulties to be on the safe-side.

All the best to you tomorrow!

Cathy

I took no pain relief the day after surgery, and within 48 hours was caring for my 11 month old son.   Needs must.  I was also driving within 48 hours having been off narcotics for the requisite 24 hours.

I had a completely natural childbirth (not even a Tylenol) and believe me, WLS is nothing like childbirth LOL!

I had natural childbirth and that was very painful while it lasted and then no pain whatsoever and the reward on an infant so even if I was in pain I wouldn't have noticed.  I had open rny, I took pain meds in the hospital, took 1 dose when I came home, tried that disgusting liquid tylenol and dumped it all and took nothing.  It doesn't hurt the same at all, its a muscular pain which isn't the same as a child birth pain.  I think you will be fine and being alone shouldn't be a problem unless you have to take care of a young child also.  I sent my son to stay with his dad during my recovery, I stayed alone by choice, I hate being fussed over by people when I am not well.

Good Luck.

Surgery is tomorrow, I've done every single step as instructed.  My only real concern at this point is that I currently live alone and I don't want to feel quite like a Mack truck hit me.  My thought process was that I NEEDED movement, so didn't accept any offers of someone staying with me.  Did anyone literally feel like they could not get up and walk to the bathroom or kitchen?

I was sleeved in Sept 2014.  I stayed in the hospital for 2 days.  I did have pain and at times I felt like I wa**** by a mack truck.  A lot of it had to do with my age...over 60..and my intolerance to pain.  The worst pain was the CO2 that is pumped into the body before surgery.  It took a few days for that to subside.  That being said, I gave birth before epidurals became popular  Hell NO, this surgery in no way compares to natural childbirth.  Not even close.  Not even in the neighborhood.  My daughter came down here during the surgery and stayed one day after I got home.  I did OK on my own, but I admit I was a big baby due to my lack of pain tolerance.  The anticipatory anxiety makes us so stressed out before surgery and before we know it, the surgery is over and done with.  I wish you the best.  You should be fine but find a person to drive you around when/if you are taking pain pills. I didn't take anything stronger than Tylenol after I got home.

No, it's not that bad...and I had 2 surgeries in 2 days.  I also had 2 (9-pound) kids naturally...LOL.  Childbirth was much worse
