Protein shakes- good or bad?
Just about a month out here. Still on soft food and working on getting protein in first and always. The goal my NUT gave me was 70-100g. I can get to about 50g with the food I'm eating, sometimes a little more. I'm supplementing with protein shakes I'm making on my own or shakes I'm buying - both with no sugar and about 25-30g of protein so I get over my 70g I need.
But I was told by someone else who had RNY that protein shakes are why I'm not losing that much weight. I'm confused because I know the best way to get protein is from food but right now I just can't get up to the 70g byt eventually I'll be able to stop drinking the shakes and get it from food alone.
Any opinions on protein shakes?

I'm 13 months out from surgery and I have a protein shake every day. I've lost over 100 pounds, so I can't believe that, without the protein shake, I'd have magically lost more...

The person who told you that drinking protein shakes is keeping you from losing weight may have had RNY but (s)he doesn't know what (s)he is talking about. Your body doesn't care whether the calories and protein originate as liquid or solid!
Some surgeons have a bias against protein shakes so maybe this person is speaking based on (bad) information from their surgeon. If you need to drink protein shakes to get the protein in -- and many people do at only a month out... I know that I certainly did -- then do it and don't worry about it.
Most importantly, keep in mind that weight loss during the first 4-6 weeks is extremely variable from one person to another. Some people lose quickly, some people lose slowly, and some lose very erratically. A stall during the first month is also VERY common. So whatever weight loss you are or aren't experiencing so far is probably just fine.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.
I really appreciate the answers! This is how I feel too but I was worried when she told me that since earlier in the week you guys gave me great new instructions on what to eat since my NUT didn't give me a lot to go on. I know protein is #1 so I didn't think she was right.
