What did I do wrong?

I woke up feeling fine, and took my thyroid medication with water as usual. Then, after my shower, I took my nexium, b-50 complex, and zinc with more water. I still felt fine. Shortly after that, I measured out some cottage cheese for breakfast and started eating. I barely got any cottage cheese in before I started getting horrible pressure in my chest and feeling like the cottage cheese was stuck in my throat. I stopped eating immediately, and started spitting up lots of foamy saliva. The pressure in my chest was worse than ever before. It took at least an hour before it finally felt like things were moving again and I was able to start drinking again. It seems unlikely that the cottage cheese could have caused this. Has anyone had pills get stuck before? I wonder if I took them too close together. Could something from last night have caused it? I didn't have any problems after I ate yesterday. It was really unpleasant, and I really want to avoid whatever caused it.

This did happen to me.  I ended up going to the emergency room because I was scared to death!  It turned out that I had just taken my meds/vitamins too close together, and they had clustered to get stuck.  Eventually they desolved and I was ok.  But I was terrified while I was going through it.  Ever since then, I'm just really careful about how much time I go in between taking meds/vitamins.

What she said.

My experience is..about an hour between any type of pill/vitamin. Now more than 2 at a time (unless doctor or script says take with somethign).

Also, vitamins in general make me pukey. I have to take them with food or a protein shake and not too many at a time.

same as everyone else. it's taking the vitamins too close together. I usually wait 15 min between each pill (it takes me an hour to take my calcium, since I break them in half). I am taking pills all day, but if I don't I get what I refer to as RnY hairballs (I feel like I'm coughing up a cat hairball when I over eat)

Fifteen minutes is still not long enough to wait before taking a calcium supplement.

That is why in the beginning a lot of people try to take chewables or crush their meds... so it goes down easier. Foamies stink.

Thanks everyone! Now I know I need to watch out for this. My program only had me crushing pills for the first two weeks, so I have been swallowing them since. I still use chewable calcium and multivitamins, and I think I will stick with those for a while.

Foamies with saliva and that pain is the worst thing ever. First time, thought I was having a heart attack!!
