Biotin

I had RNY on March 4, 2015.  I am already starting to see some hair loss, of course I was kind of thin to begin with.  For those that have had to take Biotin for hair loss, what is the mcg that you take?  I went to Wal-Mart today and bought 10,000 mcg.  I am hoping that one will help.  I do realize that it will take a while, but I figure I might as well get it going now.  Is that too much?  Are there any other supplements that I can take besides the Biotin?  Thanks in advance!

I've lost a lot of hair! Way more than with the sleeve. I take only 1000 mcg a day I think but also zinc as well. I think it just takes months to start coming back. So hang in there. In the meantime I buy hair fibers and it works great! It's pricey in beauty stores so I get mine on eBay.

I have also heard of the zinc helping.  I am going to try that, too.  I have heard of the hair fibers.  Not at that point yet, but if I have to, I will get some off of ebay.  Thanks!

I have been taking 5000 mg of biotin. I was told that more than that could cause unwanted hair elsewhere. I had thin hair to start with so when my hair started coming out, it was super noticable on the top and sides. I wore wide headbands to cover the worst areas. I started with biotin and prenatal vitamins and my hair came back in nicely. My doctor said taking these vitamins was not harmful but it was probably just a coincidence that my hair came back on its own at that time. Coincidence or not, I have kept taking the vitamins and my hair looks good, still thin but not any thinner than before surgery. I can live with that.

This is how I am, too.  Thin already on the top, but now I am noticing the sides are thinning.  I am freaking out. lol  But, I have heard of a lot of people taking the Biotin and I am trying to get a leg up on it.  I am thinking of buying some hats and stuff like that, but cant wear those at work.  I guess only time will tell.  Thanks!

I take 10,000mcg once a day. I have been told that there is nothing that you can do to stop the hair loss, just make sure that you are getting all your protein and water in each day and that will help make it fall out less. I also started with thin hair. I am using Biotin & callogen Shampoo and conditionar. You can find it at Ulta or Walmart.

I am almost 4 1/2 months out. Best of luck.

Biotin won't keep your hair from falling out. Look up telogen effluvium.

What too much biotin will do is give you a really nice, shiny beard. Lots of women on OH have gotten generous offers from the circus thanks to biotin.

The circus, you say?!  I may re-think Biotin! lol  Do not want to be the bearded lady at any circus!  No matter how generous the offer!
