Constipation - Help!

Had surgery on 4/8 and have been experiencing constipation. I'm sure it's most likely from the pain meds I took in the days after surgery and my full liquid diet but does anyone have a tried and true method of keeping things moving?  I took Milk of Magnesia yesterday and just about yacked. It worked a little bit but its not something that I'd like to use on a regular basis.

Getting enough fluids is the most important thing.  Remember 64 ounces is the minimum suggested amount you need.  Your body may need more than that.  I have to drink about 120 ounces to keep things moving.  I also take a 1000 mg of Magnesium and 2  large doses of Benefiber, daily  (morning and night).

Do a search on this site--lots of advice to read.  The most recent post is Zonechef's on April 8th.  I've found some success with:

1.  Large glass of warm water with 1 capful of Miralax each morning before eating  2.  daily walk/exercise   3.  more than 64 oz water daily  4.  fiber and fats  5.  routine

Oh yeah, forgot to mention I saw a specialist for issues more than just constipation. Don't ask.  He said it's a good idea to train your body to eliminate at the same time each day...it's a sign of good health, supposedly.  He also said a poop should take only slightly longer than a pee.  I am way off base on that one.  Hurdles for turtles : /

Constipation after surgery is normal. It took me until day 8 to get it resolved. I took colace, milk of magnesia, and miralax before things got better. But everything got better after that, and I have not had to take anything since. Hopefully this will be resolved soon for you.

I hated the taste of the liquid colace that they prescribed for me and Miralax made me ill so I found little Dulcolax pills helped me.  I had my husband buy the tiniest pill he could find.

I take Colace everyday and still have issues. I tried the miralax but you have to take that everyday. I then tried the mom and that stuff is nasty and it only helped a little. What finally helped me was taking 2 ducolax tabs. that helped me get cleaned out. You might want to start out trying just 1. My doctor told me I could take whatever I wanted.  He did suggest taking benifiber daily
