needing some wisdom from other light weights

Thank you Nadia, that helps more than you know. The people that are trying to convince me not do this are saying this out of concern for me.  But I have researched this and I know I am making the right decision, but my head keeps playing mind games with me.

I had the same thing happening but more between the RnY or the sleeve. My doc recommended the RnY, and that was was I initially wanted. Do what you want, do what you feel is right, and most of all don't let yourself be influenced by outsiders who don't have all the information.

I also wanted the sleeve but because of reflux my doc said RNY is the way to go.  My family member thinks that now that I have diabeties it should give me the added incentive that I never had to lose the weight naturally.  I know she is wrong but cannot convince her.  She thinks I'm making a huge mistake.  It hurts in that I am scared in the first place and she in reaffirming my fears.  I think it's natural to have fear but she is flaming them

If the charts say you are obese..you are obese. They probably dont get that excess weight is still excess weight no matter how tall you are.

Seriously, dont listen to them. A surgeon wouldnt do it and the insurance company wouldnt pay for it just because you felt "whimsical" that day. This isnt like a boob job.

I know SS, we have talked about this before you and I.  I am still struggling with the head games and I knew coming here I would find others in the same place that I am in.

I am 5'8" and was 236 lbs before I decided to have surgery.  So, like you, I had about 85lbs to lose.  My boyfriend thought I was insane for doing something so drastic.  He still believes that.    My colleagues and family  said, "You weren't that big!".  I reminded them that I was obese and unhealthy and need to do this for myself and my health.  I don't regret my decision at all.  My health has improved tremendously (blood pressure, glucose, cholesterol) and the little added bonus of having many more options for clothing is not bad.

I had one of my nurses make a similar comment when I was in the hospital having my surgery.  I ignored her, too hopped up on morphine to even get that mad.  My charge nurse had gastric bypass 10 years ago and was very encouraging, so it balanced everything out.  As for the naysayers, you don't have to defend your decision to them.  You will have to find you way of sharing your reasoning and maintaining your privacy as you are comfortable.  If you are doing this for your health, say that.  If you don't want to discuss it, politely say that.  The dietitian was very unprofessional and I would report her.

I am quite ambivalent about this concept of "light weights".  Yes, there is a forum for lightweights, yet I chose to post on the main forums since the issues we face as WLS patients is the same.  With that said, you will find good support in the lightweights forum.

85 lbs is a LOT to lose and some people just can't lose it. For whatever reason, diet & excerise just doesnt work.

If it did, we would all be thin and WW would be out of business (or at least charging the lifetime members)

The problem is I diid lose the weight once but regained it all back. My sister in law (who is morbidly obese) thinks I should now have the incentive (diabeties) to lose it again.  Strange comment she made though, and I'm still trying to figure this one out.  She said she is not fearful for me of the actual operation but is fearful that I will never be able to eat a normal meal again.  I explained that my "normal" is what got me into this situation but she still is not convinced and was asking me to please reconsider.  I'm not sure if something else is going on with her

Thank you for the supportive words.  I sooo needed them today and it's great, really great to know I'm not alone with this problem.  I'm going to take your advice and simply say I'm doing this for my health and don't wish to discuss it further.  It just irks me that this dietician is one I waited for because of her expertise in bariatrics.  I am trying to surround myself with a team to support me after the surgery and now I'm doubtful she will work out for me.  She should know better is my thoughts.
