2 weeks to surgery and I woke up with a COLD!

Surgery is scheduled for April 8 and I woke up this morning feeling like I've been swallowing razor blades and have a runny/semi stuffy nose. WTF???  I start my 2 week pre-op diet tomorrow and I've been told no throat lozenges, no herbal supplements (that rules out Zycam and the other homeopathic remedies I usually go to) and I can only take Tylenol for pain.  Does anyone have any ideas to get rid of this thing before surgery? Everyone at my office has been passing this plague to everyone else and now I have it.  I'm kinda freaking out a little bit; I've waited 7 years to have this surgery and now this.  Ideas anyone????

Get plenty of rest, fresh air and eat according to plan.  You might want to get a throat culture to make sure you don't have strep.

A cold lasts 3-4 days - nothing for you to worry about.   It'll be long over by the time you have your surgery and even if you had a cold, they would NOT cancel.

Go to the doctor.  Get antibiotics.  A cold will not stop surgery.

Hey there!

I'm scheduled for 4/6, so we are nearly surgery twins!  And I have been battling a bad cold (sore throat, swollen glands, etc.) since last week.  We will get past it and get to that table, and safely!

Mine is viral so no antibiotics for me... Doctor gave me some steroids last week to combat the swollen glands, and that was it. I was feeling better so I jumped right back into exercising, etc. on Monday.... And I Relapsed! Crap!  Anyway I consulted my surgeon and PCP and both said the only way it would postpone surgery is if it turned into bronchitis.  So, I am doing what I NEVER do: I am babying this cold to make sure I recover.  Staying warm, drinking warm liquids, two hot showers a day, and a vaporizer at night. I am taking Tylenol every 4 hours for the aches. I'm going easy on the exercise till the cough is completely gone.  I also washed everything in my bedroom: sheets, etc., and changed my toothbrush.  Relapse, shmelapse!

I will grant you that this sounds over the top but hey, I don't want to take any risks. Good luck to you too - we will both be fine.  Under two weeks to the losers bench!

I was recovering from a cold the day of my surgery. I spoke with the office a couple days before the surgery. At the hospital l didn't have a fever or much of a cough , just sniffles and l had my surgery and no complications. Go to the Dr. Get checked out, drink lots and rest....call your Bariatic office.

Good luck
