Please, I am so discouraged

Hi y'all, so I had gastric bypass 3 weeks ago today. I saw my surgeon last week and in the first two weeks I had lost 22 lbs. I'm so thrilled about that. Well, my surgeon says when he sees me again on the 31st I should have lost another 20 lbs. Well for my week three I have officially lost 1 lb. How is that even possible this early out? I'm so frustrated. I'm getting in all my water, all my protein, and I'm only at like 400 calories a day and most of that is two protein shakes. I'm doing everything right I don't understand why I'm stalling already. I never would have expected the 20 lbs this 2 weeks if my surgeon hadn't said that, and now I'm not gonna hit that. I'm worried about what he's going to say. I've journaled all my food so he can look at it. I'm just so discouraged. :( I expected this in a few weeks, but not on week 3. Anyway, any advice I would greatly appreciate. Thank you so so much. Blessings! ;)

If you search OH, you will find 80 billion posts about the 3 week stall. It's completely normal. Follow your plan, and you'll do great.

I think your surgeon's short term goal is insane. He wants you to lose 42 pounds your first month? The most I ever lost in a month was 24 pounds, and I lost 290 in all.

Just keep working your plan and don't sweat the numbers.

What Grim said. . . Look up 3 week stall.  Most people experience after WLS.  Stick to your plan.  You will be fine.  Your doctor is nuts and setting you up for failure for giving you an unrealistic and unattainable goal like that.  Shame on him.  You can't do anything more than stick to your plan.

Ditto to what the other members have replied.  Another 20 pounds by the 31st is crazy.  Check out all the posts when I did a search on 3 week stall.  Better yet, when you go to your appointment, you can let him/her know that a 3 week stall is common and not just you.

Keep doing what you're doing.....

I stalled after one week for 3 1/2 weeks... Your Doctor is an ass... My Doc kept telling me, I am not worried, I rearranged your insides you will lose the weight. I am not sure what you are supposed to be eating at this point, but if you are supposed to be having more than protein shakes... start having a bite or two of allowed foods. It does take time to get used to it, and there is a reason for the steps.....

I agree with the others.  I am 11 months out and below are me loses the first 2 months.  I do not try for a monthly number just mini goals first 50 lb, below 400, hit 350, first 100 gone.  I learned the hard way trying to please the surgeon/doctor just causes me undo stress.  I have to make myself happy and healthy not the surgeon :)

I hope your surgeon was joking, because if not he is certifiably crazy! You are doing just fine,my dear. You will not lose weight every week no matter what you do. Your body has to catch up and adjust. Most people's weight loss is like a staircase: you have times of loss and times where you stay the same(the landings). Those are stalls and most people have one about three weeks out. It will last varying amounts of time and may even be three weeks BUT if you keep doing what you are doing you WILL start losing again. I did not lose 22 pounds in two weeks but went on to lose over 145 pounds. You will do just fine too! If your surgeon gives you a hard time he is an *ss!

I can't tell you guys what all your responses mean to me. I have been driving myself crazy for days. I asked my fiancé if he thought that my surgeon was joking cause that would make sense now seeing ya'lls experiences, but he said he wasn't sure. He said maybe or he was just trying to keep me motivated. However, I did ask my surgeon if I would stall this next couple weeks and he looked at me like I was crazy. He said that no I shouldn't stall for quite some time. Shrug. It's obvious that he didn't have the right answer for that haha. I feel SO much better thank you so so much. I just started pureed foods, but all I've really had is beans that I've pureed myself. I was drinking V8 which I love and is allowed, but thought maybe the salt was causing me problems so I switched to the low sodium kind. It's not as good, but it'll do. I'm the type of girl that would stand in a garden with a tomato in one hand and a salt shaker in the other haha so it's kind of bland. Anyway, I made myself get up and go to the gym today, and coming home to y'alls responses makes my day. Thank you so much. ;) Blessings!
