Ate too much for my first meal!
I took a few tiny little bites over 20 mins when I started feeling all this terrible pressure in my chest. I didn't think I could have possibly eaten too much already, but that's what the resident told me! The hospital has a special bariatric menu, but the portions are huge! I said I couldn't tell how much to eat, and she said these are the small portions. I couldn't even eat a 1/4 of it! I need to get out of this hospital.

I am almost 3 weeks out and still not allowed to eat anything, only liquids until next week according to our programs plan. I haven't felt any restriction at all because the liquids go down with no issue, I can get 100+oz in a day no problem.
I'd imagine I'd have difficulty taking in normal food at this point, especially if it was only 2 days after surgery. Is it common to get real food from hospital that quickly after surgery? I'd almost chop a finger off right now to just have a scrambled egg, it's been almost 4 weeks since before my pre op diet thay I've chewed anything.
Good luck with recovery, the first few weeks will fly!
I did not make this post - what the heck?
And when I try to reply to the post that has my name on it, the reply gets stuck here instead...

It's happened to me a couple of times. One time, I posted something and it popped up with someone else's username and avatar. Very odd.

That's odd that they would serve you a huge portion if you weren't supposed to eat that much.

Glad to read your surgery went well. Pressure in the chest is a good description for too much, too fast, not chewed enough, or sometimes even the first bite! Things will seem overwhelming in the beginning...everything from regrets, mourning old ways, grocery store visits, food advertisements, to hormones gone wild. Good News, you'll get the hang of it with each passing day.
My plan had me on clear liquids for one week, then started week 2-4 o puree foods, then at 1 month I go to soft foods for 2 months then after 3months will go to regular. I am currently starting day 3 of my puree foods. They say 1/4-1/2 c. 5 times a day. NUT told me the more condensed foods I would probably only do a 1/4 cup and the more liquid I would probably do closer to the 1/2 cup. I measure because honestly I have not experienced to know if I am full. I will say you stay busy with stopping drinking liquids 20-30 min before a meal and nothing 20-30 after a meal and told not to take more than 30 minutes for a meal.
"When I was in the hospital, they always included a little condiment cup with packets of mayo, lemon juice etc. it was 2 oz (printed on the bottom). I took whatever they gave me and filled it 1/3 to 1/2 and ate from there. I didn't always finish but it helped me from picking at the food for too long."
I made the post. Must be a weird glitch. Maybe we both replied at the same time?
