Starting new job right after RNY - Recovery Time

And oh yeah, the travel "ban" from my medical team (mentioned earlier) is a concern too.  Well again, first thing is to determine if they can delay my start date at all.  If I have to choose between having the surgery and the position, I will have the surgery.

I just had a thought: maybe call your surgeon's office and see if they have some kind of cancellation list? Perhaps that way you could have your surgery a bit earlier.

Yes, good thought. My surgeon team does the surgery every two weeks at my hospital. As soon as I was lid off, I pushed for the 3/23 date. Unfortunately the office didn't submit my package to insurance very quickly (understatement!) and insurance has still not approved the request.  So Monday 3/23 is not possible, and 4/6 is the earliest possible date.  But thanks for "thinking out of the box"! 

Same thought.  I was scheduled for December and the office had a cancellation and moved me to October.  I would get on their cancellation list and try to get the surgery sooner.
