NSV: 139 lbs and ice skating compliment

Hi guys,

It has finally happened!  Today, I am 139.8!  Yes!

I am so happy because while I academically KNOW that I traveled thru the 130s on the way to 270s, I don't consciencely (sp) remember it.  Today, I have attained a weight "decade" that I dont remember!!

According to my surgeon, I was 275 when I went in for surgery (I weighed myself in at 270..but whatever).  Today I am 139!  Based on my surgeons weight measurement, I have lost 136 lbs in a year and a half!  This is wonderful.

I started out wearing 3xxx sizes.  Today I wear an XS-S depending on the brand.  At Lane Bryant and Catherines, my clothing size was 28-32. I am now a 4-6 (my curvy cut Levis are a 4. My Rock and Republic Jeans are a 6).

I love my surgery and all the fun it has brought back into my life!  I can run!  I can run 8 miles without stopping (when my knee holds up). I can do body pump!  I can do tae bo!  I kick ass in cardio kick box, and although I have two-left feet I try to rock it in body jam!

One of THE BEST things that have come back into my life is FIGURE SKATING. It is so much easier and I feel so free speeding around the rink in open skate!   I can really go now and can burn 1,089 calories in two hours according to my HRM.

To celebrate the 130s, I forked over the 119 bucks and joined the FOOTWORK class for figure skating. It is very daunting and full of moves I dont know how to do and never heard of (which is kind of the point of the class right?).  I am scared and thrilled all at the same time.

I have had SEVERAL great NSVs come out of arena. First, I am old (for a figure skater). I was really worried about the kids (teens and pre-teens) being mean to me for being in their class/space. Instead, they kind of treat me like a unicorn.  As in I am that rare special adult that plays with them.  They are teaching me the "fredericksburg butt spin" which isnt even a real move..just something that they made up and Friendship spins (which is another made up thing). They also introduce me to other adults that they know skate.

So one day, I was watching the advanced kids skate (i.e. the axel/competitor gals and guys) and I said to one girl "I want to keep skating and try out for an adult synchro team eventually. Am I nuts?"  She looked at me with all sincerity and said "Do it!  Have you met Jane"  Turns out I have seen Jane a billion times at the rink.  I thought Jane was 50.  She is 72.  Jane STARTED skating at 52 and landed her first axel at 58.  At 69 she had to give up the axels due to arthritus but now is a bronze level ice dancer.  She is an inspiration.

Jane also looked me up and down and said "I have seen you around. YOU CAN SKATE. Why arent you in lessons!?!?!" (Yay..NSV not there). She also mentioned that I now have the perfect skater build. Not too tall, not too short, thin but muscular.  Can you believe that!?!?!?! It has been years since anyone told me that my build is perfect and that I am THIN and muscular!  Like, I never thought those words would EVER be said to me. And when I hear them, it is equivalent to angels singing in heaven!

Lastly, I was at the rink practicing my spirals during open skate (it was public skate and fairly empty). At the end of the practice, a 10 year year old (Grace) skates up to me and says "You have really pretty spirals."  This made me really happy because I was admiring her backwards lunges. We agreed that the next time we meet at the rink, she will teach me backwards lunges and I will teach her backwards spirals.

And that is the BEST NSV of all.  To have a pretty spiral!  I was thin, had a perfect build and a beautiful spiral all in the same week!

Love my RNY!

I love to watch figure skating! It is so graceful and beautiful and amazing. I have two left and am perpetually uncoordinated so I'm pretty certain I cold never actually do it. But I am so proud of you for challenging yourself with learning new skills and doing something you enjoy. And congrats on your NSVs! Things like that remind us why we have done all of this!

Doing something you love, taking lessons, meeting people like Jane, and having the perfect body for it.  What a great outcome for your surgery.

Especially meeting Jane!  Goes to show, just because one is getting older doesnt mean one needs a ROCKING CHAIR!

Congratulations on your achievement and on your figure skating.  I used to love to figure skate when I was young but with my bone on bone hip am scared to death to take the risk and fall.  Enjoy your success and your new body.  Have fun.

I remember 139, I even have a pic I had to go find, it was the biggest moment in my weight loss, everything above 140 felt fat to me, the 130's was finally making it.  Yeah for you!!!! I started at 283.5 at 5'5 nearly 10 years ago.

Love that pic!  :)

The 130s feel like a new destination. Sort of like a planet I havent been to.  I will be happy no matter WHERE my weight lands, provided it is at or under 142!

I worry about rebound weight!
