Does everyone have to do the 2 week diet before their surgery?

Nope. I did 30 days of Optifast ( but I also got one food meal a day ), and some people don't have any at all. It just depends on the surgeon.

I didn't have to do any prep, except for liquids only the day before and nothing after midnight.

I had to lose a percentage of my weight before they would do the surgery.  When I got that off and all the testing done, we were good to go.

I think it depends on your surgeon and pre-op weight. My surgeon put me on South-beach Phase 1 2 weeks before and clear liquid diet 48 hours befor which I started thing morning- my RNY is this Weds.

I have about 60 lbs to loose. My BMI is at 37 but have other health issues. Had a aneurysm at the age of 19, I am pre diabetic, have restless legs, & GERD!

I'm sure you will do great and the surgery will stop the pre-diabetes in its tracks. All Surgeon are slightly different. Follow the instructions he/she gives and be strong!! Wishing you all the best.

Nope, no pre-op diet for me.  Just nothing solid after 6pm the night before surgery, and nothing after midnight.
