How do you know when you are at goal?
Hi Gang,
I am 10 months post op. Here are some stats, I am 5'6", weight 160 lbs and wear an 8/10.
For the past few weeks, I have been stuck between 159-160 lbs. My doc never gave me a goal weight, I just picked 142 because that was the lowest adult weight I had ever attained.
My questions are: a) how did you determine goal weight b) am I finished losing now that I am at 160 or is there still some more left in this surgery/exercise/food choices (i.e. I can still see tummy fat, back fat, and thigh fat) and c) when you are at your normal weight is there normally fat there (like a bit of tummy, some fat on the thighs, back fat). I can find pics of models with concave stomachs but models are typically UNDERWEIGHT. What does NORMAL look like in terms of weight.
I dont want to sell myself short, but I dont want to be chasing impossible crazy ideals either. I just want to be normal, healthy, and sane.
Thanks!

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
At only 10 months out you are most likely not done losing yet. I think your goal weight should be totally attainable if you keep working your doctors plan. The weight you picked would give you a normal bmi as well. Just keep moving and following the rules and your body will tell you when it is done.
I picked the weight that was considered ideal for my height and made me a normal bmi 5'5 at 138lbs. I was below that during my recent bile duct surgical issues, but I am sure I am back right around my goal number again. Nothing is loose like it once was when I was at 128. But I am fine with +/-5 of my goal. Otherwise once my jeans are tight I am dieting once again. Please let Halloween be over soon, those stupid Snickers call me far too much.
I am 8.5 years post-op. I never set a specific goal, was willing to see where weight loss surgery would take me. I continued losing slowly well into my third year post-op, reaching a low of 128 pounds. Now, several years later, I weigh 118-120 pounds with normal fluctuations. Your body will do what it is going to do, as long as you treat it well (mindful eating).

Edited to add: I meant to mention, I am 5 foot 3, my start weight was 290.

You won't know unless you hit it. Our bodies have a way of slowing down to an eventual stop naturally. 128 at 5'6" would be quite thin I would think.
