Kidney Stone or Ovarian Cyst... what to do?
Pain is mainly in the lower left/middle abdomen, groin area and lower back. Came on very suddenly last night. I've got a fairly high pain tolerance, but it's been pretty bad. Really no position is comfortable, but standing straight up is EXTREMELY painful. At times, when the pain is super bad, I've felt nauseous but no vomiting. There is a lot of pressure and I really have to push to pee, if that makes sense, but I'm peeing quite a bit. I know that's TMI, sorry! Chills off and on. I actually feel just slightly better at this very moment, but we are going on 24 hours of this and the waves of pain come and go along with the intensity. I have this happen once before, about a year ago, and just as quickly as it came on, I started feeling better. I went to Urgent Care after work (I'm a teacher and naturally today was our first day back) and they ruled out a UTI, which I was hoping it was, and recommended I go to the ER for a scan. I would rather not spend the money on an ER visit if this is something they really can't do anything or will resolve on it's own. Would you suck it up and go to the ER or would you wait another 12 hours and see what happens?

It sounds like exactly what happens to me when I get backed up. Same pain same chills sweats same nausea it went on for 3 days I saw my dr and she told me to down as much fiber as I could metamucil miralax anything to clean me out The clean out isnt fun but I felt tons better I am actually going through it again right now. I am on lots of pain meds and it does that to me I am on 2 fiber powders phillips fiber gummies and a stool softener and LOTS of water My pain in my lower back is on the lower right side and no matter what position I was in nothing helped. I would call your doc and ask if that could be it keep track of your bathroom habits also. And good luck.

It sounds like it could be kidney stones. I have problems with kidney stones and have the same pain you describe with fever, vomiting and nausea. My PCP says drink a lot of water with lemon and hopefully the stone will pass. He says most of the time they do pass on their own. I was able to capture a stone I passed and he had it analyzed. It was a uric acid stone. Most stones are calcium. My doctor said it was important to know what kind of stone you have to determine how to avoid forming them in the future. With the uric acid stone it is important to be careful about ingesting too much animal protein.
I wish you the best of luck!
Thank you all for the responses. I have been having regular BM, so we knew that was the case. I ended up taking some pain meds left over from surgery with teh intention of going to the ER if it got worse, but by morning I was feeling better MUCH better. I talked to my PCP, she seems to think it was probably a kidney stone that passed on it's own. I do know that when/if this happens again, will head to the ER to get a scan so we know for sure. Thanks again, I'm so thankful it's passed, whatever it was!
