How long after surgery before you can do resistance training/body building?  My concern is the muscle loss that can be associated with the rapid weight loss

When your doctor clears you.  In the meantime, walk, walk, walk, walk - it does help!

There is a difference between treadmill and weight lifting.  I had to wait 8 weeks, then I started out on the bike, treadmill, leg press, arm press, etc.  I now do 120 ab presses, same leg presses, and a mixture of machines for a total of 1 hr.  It helps so much.

I was given clearance at 1 month post op.  However, at my pre-op class I was given exercises to do as soon as I got home from the hospital, to keep my muscles busy so that I wouldn't lose the muscle.  So essentially I have been doing some sort of exercise since 2 days post op.
