Building muscle after RNY?
Hello,
I was just wondering how many people are successful at building muscle after RNY. After we loose the weight I would like to not only gain back what may be lost over the first year or so but be able to pack on more muscle afterwards.
Just wondering if any one has been able to get the "Beach body" after they have completed RNY.
Thanks
Greg

I have. I have a good bit of muscle and tone. I have built my arms, back, quads, and glutes. I have to calorie cycle to some extent and I take BCAA's and alwasy watch my protien intake. You do it the same way you would if you hadnt had RNY! I really like the T-25 workouts and have really helped but I also lift heavy. I know women are worried about building muscle but women wont look like men unless they take a lot of testosterone! I have great tone and development so far. I have some to go but its coming along. I am scheduled for a tummy tuck and Breast Augmentation at the end of this month. My PS is very happy with the amount of muscle I have! My PA at the surgeons office believes that building the muscle is really helpful in maintaining the weightloss but I'm not far enough out to make to many comments on that!

I have built good muscle as well. I was pretty muscular and fit (for a morbidly obese gal) pre-op and just got more so post op. I do have loose skin that no amount of body building would take away. if it bothered me plastics would be the only way. But I don't general traipse around naked so it is okay with me.
Building muscle is pretty much all I'm doing anymore. I do still do (and will continue to do) lots of cardio, but I have also been including weights. My arms are pretty cut, my thighs are solid muscle...there is, of course, loose skin that's not really going anywhere, but I am planning on doing some plastics in the next 6 months or so. :) Hope this helps you!
I don't have too much of an answer for you, as I am still in the losing process. After starting slowly with simple walking, I have graduated to strength training. I generally get 4 days a week of cardio and three days a week of strength training (some days I do both, so I do rest a couple days a week). I hired a trainer who is a power lifter with the express purpose of building muscle. Overall, it’s helped me to continue to lose weight even though I generally eat more than most people on this forum-my perception. Talking with the trainer as well as my dietician, I think it will be tough to get all the macros needed to really build muscle without supplements. My current goal is based on body fat along with weight. Once I achieve my goal weight AND my body fat % max, I will consider myself successful.
i was pretty bad after my first 18 months. i was looking pretty frail, doing mostly cardio.. 7% body fat, 165lbs (5-11), and just looked tiny
Since then i have had nothing but 100% dedication to becoming strong and have gotten into body building, eating correctly (not like a mouse) and just feeling comfortable. i can provide lots of good training info if needed
