Stretched/dilated stoma?
I really worry about this. What causes it? I looked at the scientific literature (i.e. research studies) and the B.S. language attributes it to "tissue remodeling."
If it were a physiological/pathological parameter, then ANY Of us are at risk for it...no matter what we do.
Does anyone here know for certain what dilates a stoma? For example, those that get meat stuck and need to use tenderizer, are they more predisposed to dilated stomas?
I dont want to start a fight. I just wish to learn.
Thanks in advance.

Three pounds below Goal!!! Yay !
In the absence of a physiological or surgical difficulty, I would guess it is from continued overeating.
Some people get to the point where the pouch is just an extension of their intestines with no discernible stoma and they invariably suffer from regain.

Drinking large amounts of liquid quickly might contribute. I was speaking about this with my surgeon at my last annual. He advises against "gulping" lots of liquid because the hydrodynamic forces of that liquid going through a small opening like the stoma can be quite strong. Doing it repeatedly, over time damage will be done. He swears he has seen cases of this. Of course, this is advice is not the result of a scientific study, but it does make sense.
I would guess continued over eating. I eat and sip water with meals and just had a bariactric surgeon cut me open and look at my gastric bypass two weeks ago to facilitate an ercy to clear stones stuck in my bile duct. The report I received today is my gastric bypass is still perfect, I never over eat, still at goal (130) and happy that he removed some adhesions during my surgery. Now onto the g.i. and liver function tests. Hopefully I will be completely well soon
