What's on the menu today, RNYers? Wed
Hi OH Friends,
I want to take the time to thank you all, for your friendship and support. I was struck this morning by how much my life has changed in just six months. I will have my six month "surgiversary" this coming Monday but I will be traveling and away from my scale (and routine) so this is my heartfelt and sincere THANKS for keeping me inspired, keeping me motivated, and keeping me on track!
Although I am still firmly in the obese category, I feel better and more energetic everyday. Sometimes I don't recognize the person who is walking to the gym at 7 am! It's becoming my new normal and I am going to echo the majority people on here and say my only regret is not doing it sooner.
I'm off on another whirlwind world tour for two weeks so I will rely on you regulars (Pam, Anny, Karen, Sara, Dodgergirl, etc.) to keep the post up! I will be hours ahead of you so I could start the post but sadly I am not able to plan my menu and just have to make good choices on the go. I have my almonds, protein shakes, and tuna packets already in the bag! I will cross my fingers that I will do SO much walking that the pounds melt off.
Anyway, hope you're all having a great start to the day!!! Em

One thing I have learned is I am addicted to carbs such as bread.I threw a whole loaf of bread in the garbage this morning.I ate a sandwich and it seems to not fill me or at least I think it doesn't and I wanted more.So I tossed it.I threw away sugarfree ice cream. I should have known better than buy that crap.Anyway life goes on and we learn.
Have a safe trip.
Thanks, 3BH! I hear ya on the addicted to carbs. I tried crackers for the first time this past weekend and they do not fill me so they are OFF the menu. Guacamole is the same way but I tell myself that it's a good kind of fat and eat it anyway ;) Whenever I start to feel a little sorry for myself, like why can't I have bread and ice cream and pizza and why can other people, I just remind myself that I have had MORE than my fair share of those things in my life! And I know none of those things taste as good as I feel, even now at 229 lbs.
Good learning experience, and I think we can all relate so thanks for putting it out there :) Sometimes it's nice to know we all face the same challenges!
Hi 3BH! I'm sorry to hear about the great food throw-away, but I empathize. There have been times I've been so tempted to buy foods that just aren't the right choices for me now, and I get to thinking that one of two things will happen: Either I'll eat the whole thing (poor choice for my waistline) or I'll throw 99% of it away (poor choice for my wallet.) This helps me to ignore the crap I could be buying and focus on the good stuff instead.
That, and never ever go to the grocery store even the littlest bit hungry.

You have done an amazing job in 6 months,Em. You are so faithful to plan your food, make good choices when traveling and workout consistently. No wonder you have done so well! You have so much practice making good choices in tough situations that I anticipate you doing great in maintenance. So for today: did 3 miles with Lily and only got a tiny bit wet and 20 minute Jillian Michaels DVD too. Exercise done! On track with water and vitamins and weight at 120.2 today. B 1/2 c steel cut oats with nut mix and1/2 banana with peanut butter L 31/2oz pork chop and 1/2 c sweet potatoes S apple with peanut butter D 31/2 oz country style ribs and 1/2 c pea pods and mushrooms S 3/4 c Greek yogurt with nuts. Have a great hump day everybody!
Good morning Karen! Do you cook your ribs yourself, or were they prepared? And if you do them yourself, do you have a recipe you'd care to share? I'm always on the lookout for new protein ideas.

I make the ribs myself. I take the ribs and place them with a small amount of water in a pan and cover with foil. Bake for 2 hours in a preheated 300 degree oven. Uncover and drain extra fat off and add any sauce you would like. To stay low carb I am using Stubbs original BBQ sauce which has 4 grams of sugar in two tablespoons. If I were really ambitious I could make my own. Not that ambitious though! Lower the oven temp to 275,recover with foil and bake 40 more minutes.
