Iron Question

Hi Everyone.  Its now been 18 months since surgery and I have to say I'm so HAPPY I did this.  I'm down 145 pounds, and slowly it keeps coming off.  Here's my question:  Iron!  Before surgery I was a little bit on the anemic side, and now I am severely anemic.  Last December, it was so bad I had to go in for an Iron Infusion.  I just did my blood work again, and again severely anemic.  So now I'm wondering, what Iron is everyone taking and how much?  Of course my surgeon has me on special iron capsules from Canada and he says this is the first time these capsules have not worked for a patient.  So I'm thinking maybe I need to try something else.  Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you

My surgeon prescribes ferocon for all patients.  It's vitamins C, B12, folate, and iron all in one.  Ask about it.

What kind of iron is it?

I like carbonyl iron because it's all elemental iron and rarely causes constipation.  I take 300 mg a day with 2000 mg vitamin C.

Kelly, do you take it all at one time (the iron?) or do you do it throughout the day?

Sometimes all at once, sometimes I split it into two doses.  The reason I split it up sometimes is just because it's a lot of pills and sometimes I don't like taking a whole handful of pills all at once.

My Iron was kind of low, so I upped my Carbonyl Iron from 45 mg/day to 300 mg/day.
