DC, thank you for bearing your heart & soul here. I also consider you a "friend from afar" . I just love this post, and although I am a post op I can relate to all of what you have said. Congrats on your many successes and I look forward to continuing this journey with you in the years to come. I truly hope you are as proud of yourself as your OH family is of you.
Your friend in this weight loss journey... Big Hugs!

Daisy, I consider you a friend from afar! I love reading your posts on the daily menu :) I am glad you can relate, and anyone can enjoy the post now that I think of it :) I just remember how I used to comb the site, and of course you see people having buyer's remorse, or re-hospitalization, or hernia...and I remember my doctor telling me that people who are doing well often don't take to the airwaves...and people who need support are more likely to post for help/advice/support. I want to make sure both sides are represented - my heart goes out to anyone with complications, but plenty of people can hopefully benefit from knowing the good stuff :)
Congrats on your success too and BIG HUGS BACK!!!

Im going in and having the sleeve May the 21st. I'm so excited. However, I see so many people doing well with the bypass. I really am thinking about switching to the bypass but im kind of scared because I realized that the mortality is 1 in 200. but it is so nice to hear of people who are we using a lot of weight in just a few months. Congratulations to you.
Cindy - how exciting that you are only 1.5 months out! I noticed at my last support group meeting, the vast majority of pre-ops were doing the VSG. There seemed to be a lot of fear around REROUTING of intestines, but I can tell you that for me, RNY was the best choice. I am clearly benefiting from the malabsorption of calories - my PCP told me I would do well with VSG but because of how much weight I had to lose, I would do EXCELLENT at RNY. And so far, I am. Definitely ask your doctor about his/her mortality rate and leak rate. I went to a Center of Excellence and my doctor had one patient die, after the surgery. He weighed almost 600 lbs and had a heart problem. My doctor told me people don't die from surgery, if they do die, it's from complications after...which is why they keep you one or maybe two nights and make sure you have no leaks. I promise that if I could do it all again, I would still do RNY. There are many other factors to consider such as if you have GERD (VSG seems to really exacerbate this) or if you need NSAIDs like Aleve every single day (not advisable with RNY). Talk to your doc and see what he or she thinks will be best for you :) I don't know that you can go wrong either way - both surgeries are a great tool for you to work with in your weight loss :)
