Biggest Mistake

Having this bariatric surgery was the worst thing I ever did. That's nothing more than a scam set up by the medical profession to make extraordinary amounts of money, on people who have good insurance that they are guaranteed will pay for it. They're very careful to ensure that people with the good insurance policies like blue cross blue shield the Federal program will cover everything. I have read many many packets of literature being given out for different surgeries, but have never seen one with the word death more than this one. That was one of my first red flags, the number just went up from there. I should have definitely gone with my gut on this and said no, no, no.

Now all I have are big regrets. Wouldn't you know it when I looked up on TWO bariatric sites and I find hundreds of people who are saying the same thing, they regretted doing this.

I had a bad Dr. He gave me no follow up after the surgery no instructions never came to see me. And when I had a seizure coming out of anesthesia he refused to acknowledge it refused to give me my medication for it and it just went downhill from there. Yet he's supposedly had read by health history I told him I had seizures before any of this began it didn't seem to bother him and I told him I had medicine for it and I showed it to him before we went into pre OP.

So he decided to get all rude and nonsupportive he gave me no antibiotics to follow up with after discharge and did not even cover up the multiple incisions in any way. No more medicine for nausea no pain medication no more heparin to make sure I did not throw a clot, even though I have deep varicose veins from walking the floors of hospitals and yrs and lifting patients. No medicine for the belching and gas, he did not make sure I received any post op literature, or instructions. My husband and I were so angry we signed the paper for leaving against doctor's advice and walked out.

I wouldn't recommend this Dr.Allison to give my dog a bath. Or Viera hospital and their uneducated, lazy YOUNG incompetent nursing staff. My husband has a good word for he calls it mass production Health Care. I spent 40 years living on the big island of Hawaii and thought that now being in Florida things in the way of Medical Care would be so much better, boy was I wrong. As I said regrets, regrets, regrets.

So the surgery is a scam because you chose a bad surgeon? Do I understand correctly?

Not only did they choose a bad surgeon, but they apparently refused to seek a second opinion or find a different provider.

The risk of death from bariatric surgery is approximately 2.5% (source). Given that patients who undergo this surgery are generally in poor health, making anesthesia somewhat risky, this is no more dangerous than most other surgical procedures.

For comparison, how much information have you read on other surgeries? What are you comparing your knowledge of WLS to?

Saying "I had a bad experience with one doctor, therefore all surgery is a scam" is an unrealistic and inappropriate leap. Bad WLS doctors certainly exist, as do bad orthopedists and bad cardiologists. It's not a reason to avoid surgery completely.

According to your profile, you had surgery five whole days ago. Many people experience "buyers' remorse" when they're less than a week post-op, in pain, and haven't seen any loss yet.

Please call a different doctor and see if they can assist with your aftercare.
