Pre-Op Diet

You could be holding extra fluids in your body, so drink extra plain water, and or add just lime for flavor, no sugars or artificial sugars work best. Try to keep your daily sugar intake around 65 grams too. No salty stuff, and skip the cheese too. BM? stuff in your digestive track weighs 2-10 pounds, and as much as 15 pounds easy.  Been there. Best wishes.

Thanks for the reply. Just to add, if you wanted flavor water, add fruit slices and or frozen citrus cubes to water. It is really tasty and gets the fluids in to flush out the bad stuff. I love salty too but had to work really hard on it in my pre-op to make the weigh in. For super clean colon, magnesium citrate works really good. I got the information prior to the 50 year colon check... when I had to take the examination. It all helped me to have a super clean gall bladder at ultra sound check up too. LOL

I had to do my liquid diet while on vacation.

It was not a fun 3weeks. Lol!  im almost 6 months post op now.

My advice is to always keep water with you. I drank Lois off water and diet iced tea and ensure.

I know you will do great! Don't stress about losing the weight, just look at how far you have already come!

Let me know how everything goes.

I have been on a clear liquid diet for 8 days now my surgery is mon, I use unjury vanilla protein powder, and put it in a Hamilton beach blender cost me 15.00 at walmart, small, and I am allowed unsweetened almond vanilla milk so I put that in and squeeze some dansi strawberry kiwi in and ice and blend, it comes out like a slurpi, if I use mio orange tangerine drink sugar free drops it comes out creame cycle, great  saves me,  unjury chicken soup is tops, it has 21 grams protein so when I am hungrey I have a cup taste like cream of chicken soup. and of course jello sugar free, and sugar free popcycles, , walmart sells vitamin water zero, that I uses as well , that is it for me, and it has been hard but I stay hydreated, and I have lost 10 lbs in 8 days . still got 2 more to go, till surgery and than 3 weeks clear liquid after, uggggghhh but I will make it after that I get soft food, yeah!  good luck, you can do it it is just for a short time keep telling your self that.

I tried to make my liquids into meal like choices. Low sodium chicken broth along with a protein shake and if I was feeling like dessert when coworkers were scarring down cake cookies etc I would have a sugarfree popsicle or jello

Wasn't as bad as I thought it would be.

I HAVE to lose 6 pounds by the 12th or possibly no surgery on the 18th. The doc wants me on all liquid pre-op diet starting tomorrow, which I know I can do. Anyone out there have any specific tips and tricks to share? I would love to hear from you all.

Thanks for helping me on this journey, I promise to do the same for others, pass it along.

Happy Friday and thanks in advance for the help

I had great luck with spacing my meals out during the day and being sure I had a snack at bedtime. I was able to have tomato soup so long as it was water based and that helped me a great deal. Sugar free jello was the ultimate treat for me when I was on it, which was 22 days in duration.

Being absolutely hydrated, like crazy amounts, was helpful. I was used to being able to eat or drink whenever and being able to pick up that Tervis Tumbler and just drink away was great. I bought tons of flavors of Crystal Light and of Mio and had about 150 ounces of water a day for the duration of my liquid diet.

While I was not required to lose any weight, I did do some very focused walking in the weeks leading up to my surgery to help me get in the mindset of being active each day. Did that contribute to my weight loss or would the liquid diet have been enough--who can say--but it sure won't hurt to have that walking done each day! :)

You've got this--best wishes to you!!

I lost 18 pounds in 12 days on my liquid pre-op diet. You've got this!!  One thing that helped me a lot was using some of the new flavorful broths.  I got Mexican chicken tortilla broth (Swanson) and tomato basil broth.  They had 15 calories a cup. The savory and warm really helped me feel more satisfied.  I get sick of milk shake sweet crap.  Also, I highly recommend synthrax nector proteins.  I use the fuzzy navel, strawberry kiwi and Caribbean cooler mixed with water for a juice like drink.  Their chocolate truffle mixed with unsweetened almond milk is a lot like chocolate milk.  For RTD protein, I highly recommend premier protein at Sam's or Costco's. It's thicker and has 30 grams per serving!!  I used the vanilla as decaf coffee creamer.
