Will this ever end???
Thanks. I wish I could say what is bothering me but, I can't. I can tolerate everything and i mean everything. Hot, cold, room temp etc. I'm getting all the recommended oz and protein but, very nauseous soon after. Whether I eat or not, I feel the same. I avoid taking too many meds but I will periodically take nausea meds when it gets really bad.

As suggested above, are you keeping a food journal where you can record everything you are eating and drinking and how it makes you feel? Maybe you have a new food intolerance? It is much easier to identify triggers when you are writing everything down. That will also help the doctors, etc, identify a pattern. Just a suggestion. I hope they find the cause of your discomfort soon.
I use my fitness pal. I have been eating usually the same things from when i went to regular diet. I don't think it's the foods, more like something else going on. I've read that maybe an internal hernia can cause the same same symptoms I'm experiencing even if they don't show up on ct's or x-rays. I will bring it up with the doc and see what he says.
Thanks
App 2-3 months post op I developed nausea. It did not matter what food I ate. The smell of food would trigger it. I had to stop cooking at home - and was only able to reheat foods. My friends cooked most of my food or I relay on shakes, yogurt, cold cuts and so on...
App 6 months post op I got in severe pain and the scan showed that MY GB was enlarge, full of sludge (not stones) . I had surgery to remove it and atthe same time the doc found and fixed hernia.
My doc and nut told me that most likely the GB issues and liver caused so much trouble for me. I still would get nausea - even now -..almost 6 years post op...
Just recently I discovered that I have food allergies - Dairy and soy.. . So if I eat any foods that have some of the soy or milk proteins - I get "funny" feeling in my gut...
so it can be GB, or liver issue, or hernia, or food allergies.... I wish you best in trying to figure out what works.
During teh nausea stage - I started drinking ginger tea, very warm ginger tea.. at least 3-5 a day.. that helped a lot..
Also food and drinks temperature may affect how my pouch works - very hot or cold drinks - will hurt me no matter what.. Cold-icy water gives me cramps - I still only can sip it very slowly....
BTW; my pouch to this day do not like raw carrots. More than a bite and I will throw up a little bit later.. .

Thanks for the insight. I too think I have GB issues although the CT and US showed none but, the MRI said there were some. The surgeon just thought it was some sludge as well but was not thinking of taking it out till later on. The fact that the nausea is intermittent and comes with no warning and occurs with no vomiting is the worst bit. I will see what the doc says on our next appt and keep you updated.
Try to get ginger tea or use fresh ginger. Slice a few pieces, pour ho****er on it, add some stevia (splenda gives me skin rash) and drink out warm. So good.. Morning were the worst. But warm ginger tea really helped.

I had nausea issues before RNY and continue post op. It's been 5 years since RNY and I'm nauseated after every meal for about one hour. I have gastroparesis (food moves slowly and digests slowly). I've just come to accept it. I try not to be physical or bend over for one hour after eating. Many times for supper - I just can't eat solid food so I have a protein drink or mix whey isolate powder in greek yogut (I like unflavored FAGE 2% greek yogurt) with some flavoring. I get nauseated after that too, but not as bad as with solid food.
I also don't eat within an hour of going to bed - as I can't lay flat when nauseated. I have an electric bed so I can elevate the head and knees to sleep more comfortable. I have NO nausea when I wake up (after fasting for 8 hours during sleep) but after my morning hot protein drink the nausea begins. I find rubbing peppermint oil on my tummy often helps the nausea. I also use Nexium but try to not take prescription medication for nausea unless I just have to.
Smell of food, food commercials, food TV programs, pictures of food also make me nauseated. I can't tolerate any greasy food, fried food, sugar over 9 grams per serving. I eat a boring diet but I am OK with it. My endoscopy, colonoscopy, labs, etc. are normal and I'm below my goal weight but at a healthy BMI.
I hope you can find treatment and get it resolved, but some times you have to live with it. I do (for over 13 years now) and life goes on. I don't let it ruin my day.
Best wishes, Penny
