It depends on my appetite.  I'm almost 3 years out and I eat between 500-1000 cals a day and I'm still losing.

246 in Dec 2008 before banded 1/28/09 at 215 lbs, band crapped 9/09 at 170 lbs and struggled with it and regained to 203 revised to bypass on 8/1/11 and am very happy.

That depends.  If you want to maintain your current weight, you need to eat the same amount of calories that you burn.  But I don't know how many calories you burn in a typical day.

are you gaining, with however many calories you're eating now?   If so, you need to eat less or exercise more.

Totally depends on the individual. I see some people posting that they need to keep their calories close to 1000/day to maintain while others can eat 2000+. i figured out what I need by trial and error.

I believe it is White Dove who says to multiply your goal weight by 10 to get a rough estimate. So if your goal is 140, try 1400 calories a day.

This ^^^

It depends on your metabolism and your activity level, so what works for one person would cause another to gain weight (and might cause yet another to lose a little weight).

Does your hospital system offer the ability to have your restiing metabolic rate (RMR) tested?  That is very useful to determine how many calories you burn just breathing, digesting, etc.

I would add that calories need to come mostly from protein, veggies, fruit & healthy fats.  Keep empty calories (not providing much nutrition) to a minimum.  You can only eat 1000 calories a day - but if most of those calories are carbs - then the scale may go up.  Many other factors, too - like activity level, sleep, water intake, etc.  I suggest you weigh/measure your portions and keep a food journal for a few weeks.  It is eye opening to see where you have let a few "old habits" creep back in.

Best wishes, Penny
