For most of my life, my BP was normal/low. In my thirties, I was on a very high dose of Effexor, which raised my BP to dangerous levels, and I began taking medication for that. Even after I got off the Efffexor, my BP remained high, and I remained medicated. I was really looking forward to enjoying lower BP after my surgery, but even after losing 148 pounds, my BP remains dangerously high, and I remain medicated.

Sorry to hear that.  I have known several people whose BP didn't change after losing weight, but their BP was normal to begin with, so it is interesting to hear that yours was medication induced and remains high.

You don't drown by falling in the water. You drown by staying there.

Great question!  I average 110-120/70-80 most days.  I was higher before surgery - 130-140/80-90.  My doctor has already eliminated one of my blood pressure meds and has reduced the other twice now.  I am on the smallest dose, and hope as I continue to lose and get to my goal, that I will be able to stop this one too.  My doctor has also taken me off of metformin.  The reduction in meds is def. an NSV on the journey to better health!!

Before I gained all of my excess weight, I was a college athlete with a consistent 96/54.  When I gained weight, the highest it ever went to was 120/80.  Now, it is consistently 120/80, maybe a smidge or two higher, even though I weight what I did when I was in college (nowhere near the activity level or body composition, though).

I am just a naturally curious sort, but the post on here earlier has me wondering what people's blood pressure was before they had surgery and what it is now (and whether you are under a year out  or more than a year out).

My BP was normal even when I weighed 330 pounds (120/80 almost exactly 90% of the time unless I was ill).  Since losing the weight (I am 6.5 years out) it fluctuates a bit more, ranging from 96-106 over 60-72, usually 104 over something.

I just wanted to know how long after surgery does blood pressure go down because my Dr wants me to stay on mine right now, I'm 7 weeks out and 30lbs less.
